Nikon F6 - where can I buy one new?

Hi everyone,

While still waiting for my F6, I started looking for lenses. My favorite local store has a fantastic discount for the Tamron SP 45mm f/1.8. With that discount, the Tamron is only marginally more expensive than the Nikkor 50/1.8G. However, the SP has VC and some other nice features. Which begs the question: is the Tamron VC (Vibration Compensation) compatible with the F6? And if it's not, should I get the Tamron or the Nikkor 50/1.8G?

Many thanks,
Alex

Just get the Nikon. It works perfectly with the F6, super light and handles great.

Alexandru, vă sugerez să vă uitați la "Sigma". Construcția lor este mult superioară celei Nikkor din plastic realizată în China. Imaginile fotografice pe care le poate produce sunt destul de impresionante.

Let us please keep the discussion in English... though it is generous and helpful to use another's language when comprehension is clearly at risk! :)

I have the F6 and the Tamron 45 f1.8, and also had the Nikon 50f1.8. The Tamron's VC works well on the F6. I found the Tamron to be sharper and better built and I prefer the 45mm focal length. The Nikon focuses just a little faster though.

It's really good to know that, thank you for sharing such hard-to-find info. Too bad the Tamron sale ended, but I'll keep looking.

Hey everyone,

It has arrived. :) The package is unimpressive, but the content should be. The serial number is 0035682.

Thank you for all your help, but I think I'm still going to need some. :)

Alex

As my father used to say: "Free advice is worth every penny you pay for it."

To the OP: Enjoy your camera!

RFF has always had this element and in my opinion it has been much worse historically. The advent of social media has taken a lot of them away where they can express their curmudgeonly opinions with few repercussions.

Thank you, Peter, creenus and Photon42! The F6 is am impressive camera in every aspect, including weight (the MB-40 with 8 NiMH AA batteries adds a lot to it). Being on a shopping spree (which will probably land me in the debtor's prison), I also added my first F mount lens in my collection: the 85/1.4G. While not first on my list, I found it for a good price bundled with a free Lowepro Pro Runner BP 350 AW II backpack.

Now I can store everything properly. We all know that cameras are made to be collected, not used. I wonder what camera should I buy next (in some future life, most likely)... :)

Something about his mom. :D

I have to say that the AF-D series of lenses are really quite impressive, even if cheaper. My pair of F6's are quite happy with the 20/2.8, 28/2.8, 28/1.4, 35/2, 85/1.4 and 105/2.8. The only 'G' lenses I have are 35/1.4, 50/1.4 and 28-300/3.5-5.6 and I pick them up and use them only for the focal lengths, not because I feel they are better. The majority of my F6 photos are with the 28/1.4D, 85/1.4D and 105/2.8D. None were bought new; all came from KEH or eBay.

Sounds like a great place to start. The 85mm focal length is my favorite. That and a 28mm lens are responsible for 90% of my 135/35mm output.

well ... only sympathy points here :p (you can get the meaning even without knowing Romanian, if you take Latin, Italian and a wee spice of Russian  )

But who wants to spoil an F6 with Sigma lenses, really

I have absolutely nothing against AF-D series and, to be honest, I despise the lack of an aperture ring in G lenses. I opted for the 85/1.4G because I lacked the cash to buy a second hand lens. Yes, I used my credit card and the monthly rate is a lot less than buying a second hand lens upfront.

Actually, the 28mm lens is next on my shopping list. I will probably skip the 50 for a while, given that I have 3 50s in M mount. I will eventually get one in F mount, but after the 28.

Nope. Told him that the Japanese Sigma ART 50/1.4 is noticeably superior to Chinese-made plastic Nikkors.

The 85/1.4G is not Chinese-made. :) But I must admit that Sigma did well by selling the USB dock. My 85/1.4 front focuses 1 cm at minimum focus distance (85cm) and I urgently need to have it calibrated, which is a pain in my home country.

You can add a Turkish and Hungarian on the list. :) As for the Sigma-Nikkor thing, I'll stay away from this fight. :)
