Nikon film camera, what is it?

Thanks guys. Yes seem to be an FG. I like that it has a grip option. I am looking for a Nikon film body, considering a Nikon F3 or FM2, but I think a grip would be handy.
 
FG are terrific small cameras. Dirt cheap these days. When the electronics go, I'm told they are not repairable. One of mine started eating batteries, whether the switch was off or on.

So seriously, it's a great camera, try one, they buy three.

An FM2N or FE2 is a fantastic option. Want a grip? the MD-12 motor drive is selling for something like $20!
 
+1 on the Nikon FM2n. I had an FG for a very short time, just long enough to find out that the shutter was wonky and so was the AE. Since I spent all of $20.00 on it, I tossed it and later got the FM2n. That one has been with me since then, and works, period.

Thanks for the responses. Great to see there is a wealth of camera knowledge out there :) I am leaning toward getting an F3 as I like the idea of the interchangeable finders and it has a bit of hand grip.
 
I've got six FGs, and they're wonderful. They cost me less than $50 each, already cleaned up with new seals. Before that I tried an FM, which is completly non-ergonomic and I didn't like at all, and an FA, which is slightly less bad than the FM, but too big and heavy. But for a small camera that does about what a Leica M7 does (who really needs more?) they're a great buy. I have them spotted all around--work, home, different films. And it's a nice clean design, too, unlike a lot of Nikon's other old cameras, which is probably why KR used it for his photo.

I bought mine used about a year ago to have a small, light body to wear around my neck, and after a short time it also began going through batteries as you described.
Sadly, they aren't worth fixing and I'm currently looking for another black one.

I thought one of mine was doing that, then I discovered that a batch of "silver" batteries I bought on Ebay said "alkaline" in the fine print.
 
The main problem with the two FGs that I have is that dial where you change the film speed setting does not have a solid lock on it and I had to check the setting every time I took a shot. Having said that, they are nice light cameras and the price was right.
 
by the way: If it is true what he said about the timing of the D1, D2, D3 and D4, then the D5 is in fact overdue.

Typically the cycles get shorter. F / F2 / F3 ... came in 59, 73 (14 years), 80 (9 years), 88 (8 years), and then it stayed with 8 years.

All the other D models came after 4 years.

Is there too little money to earn from the top tier DSLR models?

Or do they think there is nothing to improve?
