Been a while since I’ve posted on RFF but I’ve got a quick inquiry regarding Cable/Remote releases and the classic Nikon S. (Not S2-SP)

Will the S accommodate the same release that is used on the later RF cameras / SLR?

If not - can anyone point me to a photo or model number of the correct release? Much appreciated!

The shutter release collar looks the same as the later S models and even like on the first Nikon F SLR....but only people who own the Nikon S can really answer your question.

I assume it is the same. Looks the same - if not slightly smaller - I only have a S now and haven’t owned a Nikon RF for a small while before getting this one.

Just curious and looking for confirmation before I very lazily look for either a AR-2 or Pistol Grip 2. I rarely use a remote release but I do have a need for one.

I have a post asking the same question in the popular Facebook group - figure I could get someone there who has both to try.

It looks like the standard thread size that is used for the Barnack Leicas and many direct copies... which is different from the common skinny male thread cable release used by many like the Contax and Kiev RF cameras and many non Nikon Japanese SLR cameras like Pentax, Olympus, Canon, Yashica etc. We use to call that that type of cable release the Compur type, as it was first used on Compur leaf shutters.

Here is a website that can explain this somewhat:

Appreciate the link - I think that confirms it. The S most definitely has the same male threads for a cable release as found on a Barnack Leica and later the Nikon F (as well as RF models)

I very much like my S - slightly more so than I did my SP or S2’s.
