No More Minolta Scanners

Thanks for that. I was just busy with uploading a couple of picks, and I was going to go there now; though now I don't have to.

PS: DAMN!

I own a Scan Elite 5400 II (my second film scanner) and think it is fantastic. Excellent handling of color negatives (my favorite medium) and other films too. Very small desktop footprint!! It is sad to hear of its demise, but I have to say, if you can get one, especially at discontinued-discount prices, consider it strongly.

This is sad. I've read good reviews about the Scan Elite 5400 II. Hopefull, it will be rebadged or upgraded by Sony.

Drat. This was the scanner I always figured I'd buy as a step-up from my reliable but very slow Canon FS4000. And now, pfft!

Word must be spreading -- I did an eBay search, and the few places that have these in stock are now asking a premium over original list price for them.

They had been asking a premium. I was lucky that I found the Scan Dual III (or rather, someone found it for me). Keh.com still had a Scan Dual IV, IIRC, but I don't know if they do anymore.

Hmm.. now I'm thinking I should pick up that Scan Multi-Pro that I know about if everything is gone already and these things are going at a premium....
I could sell my Scan Elite II to Frank G perhaps..

hmm

Argh! I was going to buy a Scan Dual IV at Christmas but ended up upgrading my computer instead. I'd better find one somewhere real quickly and get it ordered. Any recommendations on who ships to Canada?

Well, after KM announce few weeks ago I came to the same conclusion. I went to Aden Camera (www.adencamera.com) and bought KM Dual IV few days ago. They had 5 or 6 scanners on the shelf, I think. Call them (348 Yonge Street office) and ask if they still have one. They still keep boxing week price $399.99CA. Henry's had this scanner last time I checked Toronto superstore, but price was $500CA (and not listed on web). Vistek had KM D-IV all the summer for 400$, but in October they sold them all out. It's nice tool to preview negatives before setting up the wet darkroom (I have to set it up every time) and insures me for time when traditional photopaper goes out of stores.

Frank, actually Nikon did the same with film cameras in Canada. So why KM is asshole company? BTW, my ISP (sympatico, subsidary of bell.ca) also had problems last night (maybe today too, but I hope they don't).

Eduard.

Because K-M jumped the gun so fast to get out of everything camera and film and they closed shop here in Canada in less than an eye-wink, like almost over-night.

I'm on Uniserve. I started with imag.net and it kept getting bought out. I think 7 times now. My e-mail still ends with imag.net. Bastards!

Welcome normjackson, I've had good service from Walters as well from the Bath branch. Very helpful. I think they only had a few of the old duals left. If I have time I'll pop in tomorrow.

Thanks for the welcome Fred.
I noticed in the last week or two www.morgancomputers.com stopped listing new Minolta Scan Elite 5400 Is @ £352 and their place is taken by refurbished Nikon LS-4000s. A shame. Seems for B&W users Nikon don't have equivalent of the 5400 I or Scan Multi in their range for a comparable price.

FWIW, two weeks ago there were 2 or 3 on the floor at
Calumet in SF.

Peter.

Peter, thanks for the tip (I owe you one). I landed the last 5400 II at Calumet in SF. I'm going to set it up tonight (fingers crossed that everything goes OK). You don't work there do you? ;) :)

Unfortunately Newegg doesn't ship to Canada.
They have a great price.

Yeah, I spend 30 minutes today trying to order from them, so I gave up. I'm going to try those other places come Monday.
