My thoughts as well; have a Scan Dual IV and the neg holder ought to be one of the weakest links.

Ordering from the UK is no picnic. Thanks anyway.

Amazon.com is still showing stock too. USD 315 for the low end model, and USD 722 for the DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 II.

When I searched the Scan Elite II on Amazon, the page says, "This item is currently not available" -- which is the same result I got when I tried two days ago.

Just a report on my findings on the retail scene in Birmingham here in the UK on Saturday. My first port of call was the smaller Jessops store in the Bullring which last week had a Scan Dual IV on display. This had disappeared, and there were only flatbeds on display. Next I went to Jacobs, nothing there at all, then I visited the larger Jessops which also carries their secondhand stocks. The only film scanners on display were their own brand ones. All were heavily discounted with "When it's gone, it's gone" stickers implying that none more were to be stocked. In general there were also big discounts on film cameras and accessories. I overheard a sales assistant saying this was because they are finding it hard to sell such stuff now.
On the up side, it does mean there are now some real bargains to be had, but overall a depressing picture.

Okay, thanks for all the info found on these KM scanner threads. Found one but I have to pay twice the US price because it's from Canada.

Frank, I just bought the second-last Dualscan IV at Henry's Outlet in TO for $399cdn. They're delivering to the outlet nearest me N/C......but that's only 60km, not 4000km to BC!

I didn't check Henry's, but it's from Young Street. Too bad about the old Maple Leaf Gardens. My old chick used to work across the street.

Yes, it's only a 4-day drive if I can keep myself awake and really really push it. Really.

Well Microtek Still makes competing products for Nikon Film scanners anyway: http://www.microtekusa.com/pp.html, derived from the Polaroid designs. I don't know how good their quality is though. Our Biology Lab had a big pro Microtek 9600XL SCSI flatbed kick the bucket after only 7 years or so of light use. :bang:

In Los Angeles, I spotted a Dual Scan IV for US$289 (+taxes) at Bel Air Camera in Westwood just a few minutes ago during my lunch break... for those who could be interested...

For anyone looking for a Minolta Scanner, see the attached URL. I purchased mine from them in December at their store. They also have a good extended warranty which allows for replacement of the item or a store credit if the product is no longer available.

Interestingly (?) the Amazon UK price for the Minolta Dual Scan is double that of the Plustek 7200. I understand now why folks based in States may well percive the Plustek as rather expensive at $200 : after all that's almost as much as the Amazon UK price :bang:TEZillman said:
