The Plustek has pretty mixed reviews......Chinese make.
Sure. See link I gave here in second post on thread :

Even among this lot some reviews not so great. Of course it will make a difference whether it is priced equal to or half that of the KM model.

Another problem is a large proportion of user reports on budget scanners, and on occasion pro reviews too, are from first time users. They could just as easily have unrealistic expectations on one hand as be very easily satisfied on the other.
Am guessing you mention "Chinese make" on grounds that this carries bad implication about QC? Does that necessarily follow? Seems to me that nowadays that it's not at all obvious what is manufactured or assembled where. The word "Nikon" on a pair of binoculars, for example, provides no guarantees as to its country of manufacture. And who on earth designed the Minolta negative carrier? I think you have to judge products on their own merits. And always buy on money back approval ;)

Just my ha'penny's worth (which don't buy much).

I was also looking for a 5400 holder, as i thought i had lost mine in a move. Luckily, i found it, but not before trying to get one online. There was a company in the US who was supposed to be providing parts/service for Minolta scanners, but when i called them for the part, they said they'd check into it and call me back, but they didn't.... I checked all over and didn't find anything. Your best bet is to keep looking on eBay, and Craigslist, if available where you live. Maybe look in listings for broken scanners and ask the seller if he/she would sell you just that piece?

My 5400 started to act up .... everything works fine except the film holder does not move back and forth like it should when selecting the frames to be scanned .... like new with very little use which I think in this case might have been a bad thing ... perhaps turn your scanners on once and awhile and exercise them . Never had a problem with it until now .I figure it was from lack of use ,as it has not been used for over a year ... it's unfortunate because it's a great little scanner .....
