My wife and i are going on an overseas trip in a few weeks' time so of course I've been mentally packing my camera bag for some time. I can't decide whether to take film or digital cameras, so every few days I ask my wife, "Film or digital?"
She always alternates her answer, smiling. she's no help at all. No one cares.

Why not one of each, if you have room for two?

I probably will, in the end, but I see that as a lack of commitment, or a profound loss of nerve, as Rem Koolhas said about post-modernism.

Few years back I modified my small Domke by cutting off the zipper and sewing in a button-loop top closure.
Have never decided if it's better or not. Works okay but so did the zipper.
Made me laugh quite a lot this, thanks

most if not all, of my stories are like that- noone gives a diddly squat.
But i'm a nice guy so people around are polite and they pretend to listen.

By the title I thought this is a thread about my photos

A story that no one wants to hear...? Hmmm, I have one...
At almost 70 with 50 years of photographic passion I'm now ...let's say very..."confused" about gear...
I like to shoot film with my old (and good) film cameras, but sometimes I feel the need of a good digital...because not always I like to scan...and I have no more a darkroom...
I think that most of the cameras on the market have an image quality which is more than ok for my needs, no doubt here.
So it's all about handling and simplicity of use, reliability and size...one or two lenses not more.
From one side I like classic controls and the Nikon DF was a good candidate...but it's large and I would like to have something small and the recent Oly Pen F is beautiful. But I always like to try something new and different, being "innovative" keeps my old brain alive and a very innovative cameras is the Leica T now TL about which I'm very curious. Perhaps too innovative and it seems the Fuji X PRO2 is very good and interesting, just read a review here on RFF...for sure the M 262 is very similar in use to my m7 and I already have the lenses...
Long story short: I still shoot film and scan, my only digital camera is a now six years old X1 with dust on the sensor...maybe one day...

If no one has mentioned it yet, the Fuji X100 series is one of my very favorite cameras. I have the original and it is everything you mention. I got the wide angle lens for it and though the pictures are great, I just don't care for that added bulk. It will fit in a coat pocket easily without the lens hood on, a dandy camera.

I cut off the side pockets of my "Little bit bigger" Domke to make it a "lot bigger" F6.

Darthfeeble, I was curious about your bag mod too, but since this is a thread about apathy, I felt to respond would be off topic.
This thread, which has so much promise, existentially, is doomed by its own premise. Pity.

I forgot I already contributed to this thread - at least I think I might have!

On my Leica II, I use a grey wrist strap with a big disk-like dial to secure it, that is branded 'Elmo'. Apparently it came from a 1960s movie camera. The big dial has the exact same proportions as the round edge of the Leica II bottom plate.
But, nobody cares.

It's stashed in the dark and scary regions of the garage, but just picture getting out your scissors and removing the two side pouches. Makes a bigger version of the F6 but with a big back pocket.

what?
I had anxiety for years, anticipating that one day the terminals of my spare camera battery might short circuit in my trouser pocket if I carried coins in the same pocket. A few times I even had to park in expensive parking garages because I carried no change for parking meters, and the garages take credit cards.
So last week (I think it was Tuesday, maybe early afternoon, maybe it was Thursday morning though), I went downstairs and attacked this challenge head on.
I made a battery envelope using paper card stock and scotch tape.
You can see here how conveniently the battery slips into the little case that insulates it from the coins in my pocket.

I just bought a C-41 home developing kit to process my supply of C-41. I'll shoot, develop, & scan. Once my C-41 is gone that will be it for color. Just B&W.
Nifty DIY solution... Dave, when un-boxing a new Leica 262, one finds that Leica shipped the battery in a cool non-conducting black fabric draw-string pouch. With Leica logo. After removing the battery, the pouch collapses completely, very small, very classy.... Daveleo, I have exactly the same neurosis about loose batteries. I like your solution.
If I carry around a single battery, I put it in it's own shirt, jacket or bag pocket. If I have several I either rubber band them together so the contacts can't touch each other or arrange them in a snug way so that they stay next to each other rather than tumbling around.
See, some people do care.
