Noam Chomsky ... again!

Where is a good place for getting a couple of really good 120 B&W film?
If anyone here can sell me two rolls, that would also work.

Not at all, Raid. Having recently gone back to also using Ultra wides, I feel they are great for portraits. But you have to be comfortable getting close to him.

In fact, a Gibson style Chomsky portrait would be very cool.

My personal approach when I meet some "famous", is to find out what person he/she is, by talking a bit about everything in an relaxed and slightly "interested" way, to make them feel good. Typically, "important" people are normal folks who might have some particular personal obsession. It is finding out about that obsession that is fascinating. Personally, I would never ask a permission to take a photo of such a person "for the record" or, even worse, ask for a double selfie. This is an approach suggesting that you are in a state of inferiority, which I'm sure Raid, you are not. Instead, if that person is interesting, I'd demand a permission to MAKE A PORTRAIT, BECAUSE I AM A PHOTOGRAPHER.

Raid, what a stroke of luck. regardless of ones personal position the man has influenced people, academia and policy throughout the world.

Perhaps ask him how he imagines the defining photo of himself? an idea versus instruction 😉

Would it be silly to take a few photos with the SWC? I'm just asking ...

i think the SWC is nothing short of awesome for editorial portraits. i used one for image bank work for a while. 2-3 backs and sekonic 358. superb for light weight and tight spaces.

I just learned that "he does not particularly like" being photographed.
I was also told that "one to two minutes of photography" is the limit.

I may aim at one good portrait.

I wonder if you are not making too much of the portrait?

Many photos of this man exist, there is no point to taking another, unless it is special to the occasion of your meeting.

Seems like you have to decide why you are meeting and be honest with him.

I understand, Fred. Taking some photos of him are really not important to me.
I am looking forward to discuss the world events.

I'm not surprised but perhaps in front of a vintage Rollei or Leica he'll soften up.😛

My suggestion is one close up portrait and one wide angle in his studio with his books, desk etc...

There are many pics of Marilyn Monroe but a good photographer was always able to get another take on the same subject.

Sure, but not clear that Raid is going to the meeting as a photographer.

One really has to say, "is it OK to take some photos while we talk?"

But you are right, you never know what will happen when you press that shutter release!

I always have my phone with me, so I will be ready.
I will try to take 1-3 shots with B&W film in some camera.
I am tempted by the SWC or a Rolleiflex TLR and some silver rich B&W film.

This is how his office looks like, and this table is where we will have lunch at.

I will think it over, Fred. The lens has max aperture 4.0, so I may need a very fast film instead of using a flash.

As you said before to me, there are thousands of good portraits of this man, so why take yet another one. You are right. I will enjoy the interview and lunch, and I will try to take 1-3 quick photos with the SWC. No matter what the results will be, I will enjoy it all.

Tmax 400 pushes to 1600 very nicely helping you skip the flash.

Even with light levels as low as EV 10 you can get 1/60th shutter at f4 using 1600 film.
I imagine his office will be brighter than that.

I have TMAX 400 in my fridge. Thanks for the information on the exposure possibilities, Andy. The other advantage for using the SWC is that his office manager could take a photo or two of us together at the table.
