I've got it bad.

Again.

Every 6 months or so this desire to shoot at f one point zero gets into my bloodstream. Thus far, my rational side has managed to reign in my noctilust and return my sanity.

My rational side is starting to bore me 😱

It's a super lens. Nothing really but outstanding results. After shooting mostly with an f/2 or slower lens, the extra two or three stops are not only a luxury--but fun! The price keeps going up---better get one now!

Is it the Noctilux itself or simply the pleasure/challenge/etc of shooting at F1.0? If the latter, perhaps you would be well off getting a Canon 7 & it's 50/.95 at a much lower price point than the Noctilux?

William

I've had one long enough to shoot three rolls of film. This shot was handheld at f/1. Kodak BW400CN. At this point, it's mostly testing.

have you ever had one on a camera and shot with it all night? that might cure the noctilust. thing is dang heavy and slow to focus. shooting faster film with a summilux is way better.

Yes and no, for 1/3 of the price you get to shoot at F/1, you will still have the noctilust.

The 0.95 is very useable (for me, with a mighty big hood) and I found leaving the filters off give better result.

There was a treat with comparsion photos between the Noct and the Canon on Photo.net, forgot the link but you should find one.

Here is a link on some on photo shot wide open with the canon.

The honeymoon period soon paases. Well it did for me! I had one for a year and shot extensively with it @F1. In the end i sold it and purchased an a 1.4 which i much prefer @1.4.

If your lust is the narrow DOF, somebody pointed out to me in another thread that the DOF of the Summilux 75 is considerably narrower.

The honeymoon period lasted 3 months with this. I prefer the look of the Nikkor RF 105/2.5 i had. that's gone too.....

Not mean to hijack this tread, but what's your main purpose for buying a fast lens?

1.) DOF?

2.) Faster Shutter?

I know it would be a combination of the two reasons stated above, but if you have to choose one, what would you choose?

Me, the lack of DOF

how about the 35mm voigtlander f1.2 nokton at considrably less than the noctulux?

thats what ime going to do as soon as have the money.

It will never have the shallow DOF of the 75 Summilux or even the Noctilux, and the fingerprint is different. But it is a fine lens and much easier in use. And of course, there is a slight price difference....
