Noctilust

I had a Noct my first time through with Leica M, and it was great. I was working on a couple of documentary projects at the time, plus I used it for a few features. I don't think I ever shot color with it - Tri-X at 800, baby.

I'd love another, but realistically it's not going to happen. I'm more likely to buy a E3 for travel, and I still want to replace my 28 and 75 C-V "placekeeper" lenses with Crons.

The colour on that shot is what I noticed first.

Goodyear,

That was the best colour photo for the Noct I ever saw, rest are just, so and so.

My first roll on my canon was fuji superior or Kodak gold (forgot), and the colour was not good (or simply no good at all), maybe I should make an effort in using Fuji Reala.

Most people shot F/1 at really dark situation, maybe ND filters with good colour film at day time might produce something interesting?

Ken,

Lots of 1/500 sec shutter speed at night, in doors, no flash? 😀

When I show dad those f/0.95 photos, I told him, it was 1/125 (at night, in doors, no flash), he just laugh...

Get a the f/0.95 and be happy? If you already have a canon body, it's only $600~700 USD for the lens.

Is it worth it? How many people in the world get to shoot at f/1?

Instead of the noctlixu, what about the Nokton 1.2? They're almost the same...

Too wide for a comparsion?

If you include that, also include the 75mm S'lux...

The honeymoon period soon paases. Well it did for me! I had one for a year and shot extensively with it @F1. In the end i sold it and purchased an a 1.4 which i much prefer @1.4.

Simon, your shot of the boys in the rain is stunning. A noct shot, right?

I had one, certainly didn't like the f/1.0 in the center only when I had say a person on either side of the composition. I do have some photos that would not be imitable from any other lens I don't think though!

It's for sure a neat lens, I just would prefer the new 50 lux asph in chrome, and would enjoy the sharpness, bokeh, and .7m close focus. Horses for courses as they say though! Get it if it fascinates you, that's the X-Factor that cannot be quantized.

That's a great shot!

I don't know how to say it, but the subject stands out while the busy background turn into something else (I am out of words)...

Thanks Will! I too was enchanted by the imaging when I first got the negs back and printed some. It is truly unique- the DOF and bokeh, like energy.

That is a great shot, and I think you've articulated what makes the Noctilux so special, that super-shallow DOF and the swirly OOF areas. Many people don't like it, but I have to say that personally I really love it.

Robert I've seen you in the Flickr Noctilux group, I thought you already had one of these....?

Steve,

Thanks for noticing. That was a borrowed lens.

I have solved my lust, though. Details to follow.
