Noctilux pricing

I think Ned is defending his turf well against the flock of Noctilux bashers.

Excuse me, but just because a person disagrees with you doesn't make them a "basher." That you - and others - have to resort to ad-hominem nonsense doesn't say much for your ability to make an argument.

I noticed that as well - I think he must be trying to corner the market! It does show what the lens is worth for now - low $4000's.

smart!

smart!

Even 6 months ago when they were in short supply but still thought to be "in production", these would have been good buy prices.

Does anyone have an official link that these are out of production? They're still in my B&H catalog that came last week, and in the Kaufman interview with pop photography he mentions he still has the summilux and noctilux for low light shooting.

If in fact there is absolutely no more to be made, officially, this is significant. When I was selling mine, sketchy pros from around the world were trying to buy it, I just felt like dealing locally, and gave a local amateur a deal.

Judging from the recent buying action of photovillage, one of the largest Leica dealer in US, it is safe to assume that current version of Noctilux is done. If brand new Noctilux are still available to the dealers, they will cost dealers about 5k each based upon the currrent 6k list price. Buying used at 4-4.3k would not make any economic sense. So photovillage must have gotten confirmation from Leica that it is no longer avalable. At least this is my guess.

Maybe he's getting stocked up for all the tourist dollars coming this summer.

Right ! He bought them to sell to Norwegians - if they skip a coffee one morning, the 5 Kroners saved should just about pay for a Noctilux after conversion to dollars.

I'm glad Mr GloomDoom is back. I missed his economic guidance and advice recently. I'm still undecided whether or not to emigrate to Norway to become an Automecanic. Rumors are they do not let Americans with credit card debts into their country, because of their social welfare system having to bail them out from foreclosure. Uuups, I guess I just found a way to avoid the american consumer faltering because of credit card debts - let's all go to Norway and come back debt free:D:D
Anyway I tried to hedge my USD exposure by buying more Leica glass. Unfortunately no Nocti:bang::bang::bang:

Great idea - since they use US$100 bills to wrap smoked herring in Oslo, it should be easy to pay off all your debts - a part time job at a coffee shop should do it in a matter weeks.

The coffeeshop job could do the trick, but I rather thought of having the Norwegian social welfare system fixing it. The average credit card debt of USD 20k or so per American should be jump change for them, considering the strength of their currency and economy. I could go photo shooting meanwhile.

Maybe we can develop an alternate currency system based on Leica lenses. 1 Noct = 100 Crons, 1 Cron = 100 Elms.

This is such a funny thread! I almost made my coffe come out my nose reading Ned's and OLsen's comments! :))

Hells yeah baby :D I use Nocti´s as paperweights all over the house just cause their so cheap. Yesterday I superglued one to a stick and used it as a a hammer cause I couldnt find the propper one :D:D

The paperweight I like. But watch your thumbs with hammering, considering how difficult it is to focus with the Nocti. :D

so new lenses with new glasses will be in usual production? when leica first sell out last 100 limited lenses with older glass design. it is good that it will not be that new glass which would be at limited production.

There was a rumor that Leica will come out with a limited production of new 0.85/0.95 Noctilux. It turned out to be the old Noctilux with new wooden boxes.

I hope the ones in the wooden boxes have jewels or are platinum plated or engraved with "The Divisive Moment" or something. I can't wait!

I think there is a possibility that Olsen appropriated your hammer....

I suspect he traded it for this http://www.upi.com/NewsTrack/Quirks/2008/05/15/trump_sells_beach_house_for_100_million/1944/

While the buyer is not known for sure, surely this can't be a coincidence, can it?

Ok - help me out, first this (emphasis is mine)...

All too many Americans here don't seem to understand that it is the fall of the US$ - and not some 'egocentric trip' on behalf of the Leica management that causes the drastic price increases. In dollars.

Then this...

Leica is selling their last 100 Noctilux with wooden boxes for for the price of 10,000 Euros (US$15,556) each.

Why do I have such a hard time reconciling these 2 Facts ??

does anyone the different between the E58 and the E60 versions of Noctilux besides its filter threads and the useless built-in Hood? Some people told me the later one has newer coating, i.e. performs slight better, but also heard that E58 is as good as the new one if not better.
