Same lens formula with different filter sizes. Over the years only the coatings have changed. Leica will tell you the newer coatings outperform the old.
 
What filter do you guys use on your Noctilux? My slim filters give a pretty serous vignetting when wide opened. Any commendations?

Olsen simply doesn't like Americans or most anything American and blames the woes of the world on our economy or anything else that seems to come up U.S. related. On another thread he was telling us what a wonderful European car he was driving and how American iron was such over rated junk. He just never passes up an opportunity to disparage anything American. I'm glad he's over there and I'm here.

I might be able to help explain.
The Euro price for the Nocti did not increase. Instead, for the difference between the old and the new Euro 10000.- price, you receive a wooden box, made of Norwegian timber and assembled by another Scandinavian institution, Ikea. The economic oracle of Norway, furthermore, assumes that the USD price for wooden box and Nocti would be USD 8000.- (only!), if one USD was still 80 cents Euro, as it was the case some several years ago. With the exchange rate adjusted USD price difference representing the value of the Norwegian timber box😛

My personal experience with my current E58 Noctilux and a current version with the pull out hood is that the E60 has higher contrast and especially wide open.
 
Rayt, do you have any picture to show the differences? Most of the time, people say new coating can resist flare better, but I haven't heard that new coating will provide higher contrast.

I use a Leica UVa E60 filter (hard to get) and it increases vignetting and flare. On the other hand, I hate cleaning lenses ...😱

I have been away celebrating the Norwegian National Day - where we all goose-stepped - all leathered up in uniform and all, down to the local social security office to pick up our checks. - So, I missed the sale of Donald Trump's little Palm Springs dacha. With today's dollar it sure was cheap! (Again I am trying to be funny, - somehow).

Actually; I have spent my weekend at our family dacha - of a standard that Donald Trump would not touch, where snow was falling from late Friday until this morning. - Glad I had a European car with 4 wheel drive to get us out of that mess! (No, I am not joking).

No, Jack, I like Americans. I happen to have many relatives living over there, - and a relative of mine went down with USS Arizona and is listed on the Pearl Harbor memorial, even. (I am supposed to have relatives who fell at Gettysburg too). I have been to USA many times, and have had the pleasure of driving across USA, an unforgettable experience and something I would recommend just anyone of you to do. Not just for the scenery, but the people you meet.

And, I almost forgot; my neighbor is American; very nice folks!

Me, when I sell it, I will buy a huge mansion on Ocean drive in Florida. Olsen will agree with me. The US Dollar combined to the Norwegian money combined to the Noctilux price of the moment will make it all possible.

Which one worths more, the box or the lens?😕
 
I used the new canon 50mm f/1.2 at one point and even with the AF it led to fair shave of "almost" shots where I had focused just an inch or so behind or ahead of the subject.

There is no point with a 50mm f/1.0 lens. There is not enough DOF. Even if you do get something in focus, because of all the "bokeh" you will remove the subject that you're photographing from it's context. The bokeh of a 50mm f/1.0 lens, no matter how "smooth," only ends up as a liability in my eye unless you are at least 10 feet away.

EDIT: at least that's my opinion on the subject, ... I didn't notice this was 5 pages long.
