Well, I went back and looked at some of the pictures you posted. So, you can focus it at f/1.0. I'll blame my canon's crappy AF and reading only up to the second page before posting something. But I will say this, in reference to the baby shot with the bottle. To me the DOF is way too small and is quite distracting. If it looks fine to you, well, enjoy. Happy shooting.

A 90mm f2.0, a 200mm f2.8, a 300mm f2.8, a 85 1.4, a 75mm f1.4... all of these lenses have less dof then a noctilux. And no one has ever complained about too shallow dof.

My poverty has little to do with this.
You can read French, right?
Well read this and tell me that it's anything but pure bollocks.

I don't see bollocks. That's the difference between communism and capitalism. Why does it hurt you so much that some things sell for more then others? I don't get it.

A Louis Vuitton label is worth more then the bag itself. And nobody is laughing at that.

Maybe some English readers will:
"The box which protects the lens is a true jewel, it is the work of Elie Bleu, the heritor of a long artisanale tradition. The factory is situated in the Parissienne region and employs 35 artists. It is known to lovers of precious objects like cigars, biros and watches for their boxes of great value in which to keep, in style and security, their treasures.
The box was designed especially for Leica, with their cooperation and is distinguished by the use of the most noble woods.
The box has 10 coats of lacquer polished in 7 cycles in order to guaranty absolute quality.
All the metal parts, hinges, handle, lock and key are gold plated. The interior is padded with Italian Alcantara."
@pitxu - thanks for posting that. lmao!

Thanks for posting the text, Pixtu, it's even sillier than I thought.
Leica isn't selling a lens, here, it's selling status to the insecure.
Has anyone seen the Renoir film, "Rules of the Game/La Regle du Jeu?" This reminds me of the scene where the Marquis unveils his enormous, elaborate music box to his guests: wonderful, but pitiful at the same time.

You're a marketing man's dream Ned.
Don't go near any automobile dealers, them guys will see you coming a mile away.![]()
How fun.
It's so easy to contradict you, not for the puropse of it but because of your failed logic.
Pitxu, look, I am not a marketing victim. I understand Marketing. That is a huge difference. This is also why I was a car salesman for Mazda. Yeah, you read correctly, I was a car salesman for Mazda

I knew it all along!!
I don't get it. If you can afford it, you buy it. If you can't, you don't? The marketing employee who thought that Leica can market to those who can, and want to, pay over $10,000 US for a humidor is worth his salt in my view.

Leica should have no problem selling out these 100 units at $10,000 Euros. In fact, only the best Leica customers can get one of these. The sad part is that none or very few of these legendary lenses will see any daylight or night light.:bang:

If I bought one I'd sell the lens, and after waiting, I'd sell the box separately. I don't care if I lost money. Some things you just gotta do.

Mike,
It may comfort you to know that the last Noct you sold is no longer in quite the pristine condition in which you delivered it. It has produced some of my most sentimental images and, while I would choose the 35 Lux over it in a one lens scenario, its unique characteristics have inspired me to shoot more in the last few months than I'd exposed in the previous two years. When it fits it really fits. Cheers!

Hey Hephaestus!
I'm glad you are enjoying using it and appreciating it's characteristics. If you wanted to sell it back, uh, for less of course since it now has more wear, let me know!

I met a man once...
Indeed I agree with you, especially when you think about the fact that its the end of a particular formula of glass not just some cloned schott that's used in every other lens around the world.
Edit: Seems the news of the price jump has reached the bay item number 310052564874

Does anyone know where I could place a pre-order and be guaranteed one of those? And yes, I'm serious.
Here is a US Leica Dealer that you can buy it from for $16,100:
http://www.dalephotoanddigital.com/...ica_Special_Edition_Noctilux_M_50mm_f_1_0.htm
"No dealer will have more than one of these, so this means we only have one available on a first come, first serve basis."
I have no relationship with this dealer, just pass on the info.

Nikon 28 1.4 prices are around 4000$ these days. So it's only normal to see the Noctilux top it off by at least 1000$.

Chris,
I paid mine 900$ and I thought it was overpriced. But it's such a good performer... Anyhow, 900$ was a lot of money. Now it's outrageous.
Even the Noctilux prices are outrageous... But the market is talking and there's nothign we can do about it
