I guess it was bound to happen that phones would get more and more pixels in them but 12 megapixels is a serious sensor. No idea what the quality is like but its using a zeiss 5.9mm lens for what its worth. But with a sensor over an inch wide in such a thin unit, what sort of lens design do you think it is?
Can it give an M8 a run for its money?

It's been released in Italy. Looks like UK price will be around £350 sim free and unlocked. Thats a lot of value for money I think considering its a phone, sat nav, HD video recorder and all the other stuff and applications you can do with it. It's not an IPhone 4 but if the camera is important to you, then so what.

hi...i just "rescued" my daughter's Nokia N8 qhich has been in cold storage ever since she discovered the iphone. On the lens, it is written "28mm Tessar f2.8" ....

wow...

iso goes up to 800. still playing with it.. hope to post some pix tomorrow.

I've got one. It's better than you think! It goes running and cycling with me and last year, when my ZI jammed, it became my holiday camera too. 2 or 3 of my postcards were taken with it.

T he N8 has a very capable camera, the 'phone is a bit of a donkey on account of the buggy software but the hardware is of excellent quality,a metal bodied, nicely engineered handset ,made in Finland. The lens is marked "Carl Zeiss,Tessar,2.8/28,12 mp,AF" and is a decent lens, sharp with the nice Zeiss blues. The onboard flash is a proper strobe and doesn't fire at the drop of a hat like most Auto digicams.I always have the N8 with me when I'm out, just to ease my guilt for ignoring my EP1 & my "new" (ancient) Contax II. These 'phones have been replaced by a newer model with an 8mp cam and if you can find one at a discount I'd recommend it as an excellent pocket cam that is very capable although not for pixel peepers. The only thing I'd hold against it is it's touch screen for some functions and you have to watch how you hold the camera when you're framing a shot as you might activate the movie function or get the onscreen menu but like any new camera it takes a little while to find your way around.Nice and skinny and will slip into the top pocket of a suit or the pocket in a Levi jacket..also makes 'phone calls:)
