Nokton 35mm f1.4 ... some questions!

I'm the new owner of a Zeiss Ikon, currently has a 35 Summilux ASPH mounted. That needs to go, so I'm torn between a 35/1.4 Nokton SC and a 35/2.8 C-Biogon. I would split the difference with a 35/2, but they're rather rare.

Get the Nokton, its no slouch. But personally I wouldn't get the 40mm version, to me its just an awkward focal length on a range finder.

I picked this lens up as I wanted a faster 35mm and I got a decent deal on it. It was something of an impulse purchase; after looking at more photos with the lens online I was concerned I wouldn't like it as I'm not a fan of busy bokeh, etc.

I've really liked the results i got out of the first rolls with it though.

Granted, the 2.5 could have handled all of these scenes just fine. I have another roll I'll be processing tonight with a lot more wide open work. I'll probably make a final call after checking those out but I'm really liking this lens at the moment. On the softness front, it out resolves my scanner... though that isn't to high a benchmark. 😉

I love my Nokton 1.4 SC I bought from haempe here on the forum a while back.

Coupled to my R2a it is my favourite lens and camera. I adore the softer images it produces. I have recently uploaded some images from Berlin in the spring to Expono at http://www.expono.com/markrich/album/16698 however here are a few of the pictures. I would appreciate some feedback on the images to help me improve my skills.

I used Agfa APX100 for most of the pictures but also tried a roll of Agfa Precisa 100 Colour Slide which with the lens produced some lovely 70s style colours and images which was exactly the look I wanted.

I have only had one problem. I bought a metal hood on eBay which was a fraction of the price of the voigtlander original. It looked great on the lens but with the filter attached to the lens at the same time strong vignetting occurred when wide open. It was not a pleasant surprise when the images came back from processing. I like the hood, I like the filter, but sadly can't use the two together which is a disappointment.

Maybe the hood is not the correct size, so the vignette problem. I have the original one and filter and never saw vignette made by the hood.

Difficult for me to say. I do not have or have access to a Voigtlander original lens hood to compare against but it was advertised for the 35mm lens, has the correct fit and looks the same when compared against images on the web.

It's possible, and probable but for now I do without it and use the filter or vice versa.

The original hood is mounted on a bayonet, so adding a filter doesn't change its position vs the optics.
I guess that what you do is using a screw mount hood. The filter is simply pushing it forward enough to enter the covered image.
Also, I was once said that generic straight hoods for 50mm will be ok for 35mm too, but they aren't (at least they aren't when placed on a filter). the wide versions are the ones to use, but even them are vignetting on a 28mm when added to a filter.
