Nokton 40 f/1,4 unclean inside!!

Good luck with the girlfriend, Anders! As to the spot in the lens, consider it distinctive; it will help you identify your particular lens from all others, if any need should arise. Of course that would be the time when the spot slides off to the side and is no longer visible... :)

You won't have to say that. If she likes it, she will just announce:
"OHHH, Is THAT For me! How sweeeet! Now I wish that I had bought a little something for you."

How many times have I heard that before! Nikon FG, Leica Mini, Nikon F2, Nikon S3, ...

I did not bring the R3A with me to the airport after all, since I knew I would get a lot of luggage to carry. Back home, and after some rest we shared photos from our separate hollidays. Seeing the first prints (Ljubljana) from the unfinished roll I later used and finished as a test roll in Stockholm, she asked me: - are these taken with your new camera (meaning the Leica CM)?

- Yes I said, proudly and secretly ashame.

Anders

PS. Are we getting a bit of topic? DS. :)

heh Anders - last time I bought a new camera my wife left on a 2 week holiday!!

Good luck at the airport!
and thanks to all for encouraging me to not worry so much about a mark on a lens. I have a n SLR lens that I might go back and use next time I feel like lugging 10 kg of camera gear around instead of the delightfully portable bessa L and R3a

Good luck at the airport, Anders. IMHO, it's always better to introduce new photo equipment at bustling occasions, not for example over a quiet dinner for two.

I love the quality the Nocton shows in your posted image. Seems to hold real promise. Good luck with it. I'm sure you'll come to love its "flaw" for its own sake. And at some point you'll have it CLA'd and then miss its presence.

I'm coming a little late to this discussion, but a grim pneumonia has sidelined me for ten days; it's the first time I see this thread. As the seller of this lense I feel I should comment here as well.

Firstly, Anders, thank you for not blaming me of having concealed a flaw in this lens. I have not.
I can not say though whether or not the impurity in the lens was there already when I owned it, because I have not scrutinised the lens interiors at microscopical distance. I presume it was not there, because the way I check my purchases on arrival, I normally pick up irregularities or in this case an impurity in the lens, if that is what Anders has identified in the Nokton. My presumption hence is that any vibration (airplane? train?) or even a kick to the parcel in transit has moved the "debris" within sight.

Does the "debris" negatively impact image quality?
With extremly high probability - No. The slides I did with that lens show no irregularities at all; and I would be surprised if even at a stellar zoom-in level any such could be identifiable. From a technical view, I think a "debris" of the size shown in the picture can not possibly go into the imaging of this lens; the size of it is most likely beyond the imaging capability of its formula. I even doubt that a single piece of dust would be visible in a very very wide lense. My practical experience with old and dirty SLR-lenses, as well as clean 35 and 24 mm lenses with dirty (really dirty!) filters on it is that not even harshly unclean surfaces, also under flare-prone conditions, impact image quality on the level I use to scrutinize it. In my humble oppinion, the impact of this "debris" is a rather on the cosmetic side of things.

What to do?
Nothing. The impurity will probably go away as it came: Through vibration or a gentle kick. I would in no event dare to open the lens. If this is a warranyt case at all (doubtful, because not obviously a "defect" as defined in the warranty), I would not claim the warranty, because the case in my view does not justify the down-time and the transfer costs involved.
What I would do is rather to shoot shoot shoot with the Nokton - this will re-establish peace of mind quickly. Anders, that's what I sincerely hope you will be able to very soon!
Happy shooting,
Gerold

Absolutely no worries Gerold!

The dirt is not visiable in a neg or print. And as I mentioned I am getting to like this beauty spot :).

As you maybe saw in another thread I also adjusted the vertical alignment on the R3A. It was really easy and I expect to have to do it now and then, since it is not very secured and it was vibrated out of position in transport.

Maybe you need some tip to adjust your R2A?

Anyways, I am VERY happy with the gear I purchased from you (R3A+Nokton 40). :)

Now all i need is some spring inspiration to shoot a lot. To a tourist, Stockholm or any other place, is inspiring but for a recident the art is to be inspired by the everyday situation I guess. I'll be back... :) :)
