So, instead of comparing the Nokton with the Noctilux, one should consider comparing it with the Summilux : great results at F1.4 at 1/4 of the cost of a summilux. As for the weight and size : 100 grams extra and similar length so also this is not a big deal for me.
For you perhaps, but logically the old f/1 Noctilux is the better comparison. The two are remarkably similar optically and in size and weight, and pure optical performance is nearly indistinguishable (well, except for the uncomfortable fact for the Leicaphiles that the Nokton is actually sharper wide open in the center). That 100g is a huge difference. The Summilux is a totally different beast--beautiful, stunningly sharp and very small and light for the performance. Probably the best overall lens I have ever used on any platform, period.

^ The 1,1/50 Nokton might be sharper than the ol' Noctilux in the center - but the corners are a whole different story. Not that either are really all that good here, but the Noctilux beats the Nokton hands down.
Just sayin'![]()
I guess I would challenge the "beats the Nokton hands down" comment with some real data:

That's the furthest 500x500 pixel clip of a an M9, at the closest focus distance, where any imperfection is exacerbated. On top of that I'm certainly not concerned about extreme corner performance at f/1, and I doubt most other folks would be either.

Hi Jeff,
I totally agree with you and everytime I hold a summilux ASPH I feel what you mention. It IS a different beast and it would be my number 1 lens to if I could justify one. !! However, at 1/4 of the price, I wonder how the Nokton @ F1.4 compares to the Summilux. Interesting to see.

The corners of the Summilux are much, much sharper. If you want a Summilux analogue that is much cheaper, try the 50/1.5 Nokton. Remarkable lens, sharp in the corners, smaller and lighter.
