nokton 50mm or 40mm?

hello everyone!

my first post to in the forum. i'm pretty new to RFs, i'll be getting my first RF in a couple of days time. after much research, i've settled on a Bessa R3A body, but i'm still kinda in a dilemma as to which lens i should get as a first one. its between the nokton 40mm and 50mm, and i was hoping you guys could give me some advice as to which one i should get first.

although i would prefer a 50mm lens, i am more inclined to getting the nokton 40mm first because:

1) if i get the 40mm now, when i hunt for a 50mm in the future (definitely with a bigger budget) i'll have many alternatives to choose from

2) if i get the 50mm now, when i hunt for a 40mm in the future, my choices would be rather limited.

Why will your choices be limited for 40mm? You think the Nokton will not be available, or it will be too cheap for your bigger budget?

I got both the Heliar Classic 50mm/2, and the 40mm Nokton. They both work great for me. If I had to pick one, I would choose the Nokton for its speed, I use it in most indoors situations, they are usually low-light for me. But I definitely prefer the Heliar in daylight outside.

I agree wholeheartedly with imush. get the Nokton 40mm first.

Get the 40 first. It is fast and compact. There are lots of really good inexpensive 50mm lenses you can buy, but 35/40mm lenses tend to be expensive.

i ended up getting the R3A with the nokton 40mm, and i'm really happy with it after one roll!
