Hey guys, managed to bag a mint yashica electro 35 GSN from the bay and it arrived yesterday. Sweet camera!
Just wondering about a couple of things though. When I advance the film advance lever there is a loud 'clunk' noise which even jars up the asa selector slightly! I have read about the pad of death but confused by it: some people say it ought to be a click and not a clunk while others say if it clunks then the shutter's working fine. Is this normal?? Also I read somewhere that its got something to do with a wire/hook thingy at the bottom of the camera. Which one should I persue??
Secondly the shutter release seems to be slightly sticky, i.e. I have to press the shutter release almost to the very bottom for the shutter to release. Is this normal for the yashica?
I've got the first roll in there right now so I'll see if the shutter speeds are ok for hte exposures when I get them developed.
Cheers guys! (thanks in advace G'man since I know you will reply

My GSN sounds more like a "clunk" than a "click". However, the ASA dial should not move. And yes, the shutter button needs to be pushed all the way on mine too.

Lights seem fine, I tested by shooting in different light conditions and apetures but i have no idea if the shutter speeds are right. I've just finished a test roll, will get it developed and see if its exposed ok. Fingers crossed!! *Clunk*

Hey Gary: Sunny Scotland, eh? Aye.
Yes, I hear a delicate "clunk" too; I've always wondered what's going on in there, but when I got my second Yashica I heard the same thing. Since you all report it too, then I just say it's a "feature".
Cheers! And stay in the shade!
