not saying that i'm done...

it seems some are just jealous of other's equipment. They see people who they deem to be unworthy of owning the equipment since those people's photos are not up to par in their eyes.

I like to try different stuff. Why is there such a stigma around here about doing such?
Is there, really?

No one has done so in this thread, have they?

i hope we're not talking about ME...SUCKING...

That wasn't my intent at all. I could care less if someone is good or not when it comes to camera ownership. Not everyone expects the same things from photography nor are images used by everyone the same way. Also, none of us post our entire photographic output on the internet (some don;t post it at all), so how can I judge?

🙂

Another aspect is that some feel there is no reason for doing something if you suck at it. And if you suck, you shouldn't be using a camera. Well, in the real world people enjoy many activities while sucking. Take sports for instance. Nobody is mad at the guy shooting hoops in his backyard if he sucks. I guess the initial attitude comes from people who believe the only reason worth doing something is fame and fortune.

I don't agree fully with this.
I don't think anyone who like photography will continue to do it in the face of realization that they suck at it. At that point they will either give up immediately or change things so their photography improve eventually (measured by their own perception, or approval from others).

It has little to do with fame and fortune, but the sense of accomplishment. Without that, anyone will give up pursuing anything.

I don't think he is talking about the kind of camera owner that cares enough about his pictures that he would actually seek out real critique and step out of the comfort zone of the Mutual False Admiration circles like the ones on Flickr and other sites where people post millions of average pictures only to bathe neck deep in empty praise.

And the day I start seeing hundreds of websites born of backyard hoop dunkers titled like "John Black, Fine Art Basketball Player" or a website called "Dunker" where said ball players say to each other, "Great Basket, you must have a really good basketball!" I will shoot my self in the eye with a rubber band gun....repeatedly....:bang:😉
