Deep forward square leg. And the guy in the coat is the square leg umpire. Beautiful double century of Pietersen today, and Bell was playing beautifully as well. It's an impressive side. Glad my mother is not alive to see such domination, but like most Australians she appreciated good cricket whoever was playing it.

I think it would be nice if Alastair Cook whipped a clarinet out during the drinks break occasionally and gave the Aussies a few bars of an Artie Shaw classic or similar ... I'm sure it wouldn't break his concentration! LOL

Being from the "New World" I had been struggling with understanding the game. Thanks for that succinct but clear explanation. Now I enjoy much better. It was all so confusing before. 😀 😀

yes same with AFL all that manly back slapping we all know whats going on. i love seeing Australia get done in the cricket so un patriotic of me i just got so sick of seeing them winning every time when they were doing well it got so boring.

Many moons ago I worked for a company in UK who had an American Director. He brought his teenage son over one summer for some work experience.
We had a very active sports and social club with regular inter-departmental and site cricket matches. So we took this young American along to educate him in the gentle art of leather on willow. He was confused so we thought we'd make him umpire with strict instructions on what to do. It was simple. If anyone from our team shouted "Ows that" he should stick his finger in the air. If anyone from the opposition shouted "Ows that" he should put his hands in his pockets. That's all there is to it. We won that one laughing all the way.
Somewhere in America there is at least one man who can claim to have umpired a cricket match even if he's still clueless as to what it's all about.
