"Nude Blogger Riles Egyptians of All Stripes"

Some agency will sponsor her immigration. She will complain after she gets here. Then you may hear about her on twitter. Why we bother discussing her case at RFF is strange. If it had been an ugly fat naked man instead, would you have joined this thread? What if ugly fat men are discriiminated against in Egypt? Would "he" get sponored for immigration?

No. Especially if said naked fat man looked like me sans coverings.

Come on, young pretty women get talked about. Old fat men do not...

The image would not be allowed in the RFF gallery, it would violate TOS. Moderators have received complaints about images less explicit than this one, and from members from Europe, the US, and elsewhere.

Art, politics, or just the act of an immature woman throwing an adult temper tantrum?

Art? It's a nude shot in black and white. If it was in color, just an exhibitionist. Black and white- art or an exhibitionist that likes black and white?

Politics? It is too "in your face" to acheive the desired political outcome.

Immature young woman throwing an adult temper tantrum? Let's all hope that she has the chance to mature.

I interpreted her actions as a statement for gender equality/ human rights. I don't know if her motivation was as an artist or as an activist, or both?

Maybe I got it wrong.

Frank,
She told CNN that she did this from a sexual freedom angle. Her boyfriend spread the image via Twitter. Her parents are not happy about her boyfriend. She lost her virginity with a man who was 44 years senior to her. .... stuff like that in the CNN interview. Nothing about art talk.

Immature? Not necessarily. Foolish? Possibly. Brave? Possibly. Ultimately, if it weren't for the risk she is running by doing this in a conservative religiose society, who would care?

It's rather sad that so many people are so excited about the nudity. But I'm reminded of a line from Spike Milligan's Puckoon. [Quoting from my increasingly fallible memory]: Someone asks the priest, "Father, is it a sin to look at pictures of naked women?" The priest replies, "Of course it is, my son, or we'd all be doing it."

Cheers,

R.
