JBW:

It's called a GAS attack (Gear Acquisitioin Syndrome). A search of current literature on the disease reveals that, as yet, there is no known cure.

I went to graduate school (San Francisco State University) in the sixties, lived in the Haight, later on Russian Hill, etc. I really loved urban photography, wandering the streets with my beat up Pentax Spotmatic and an old Rolleicord.

Later I lived in Paris one summer (sorry about that). Returned to the states with 40 rolls of TriX. Took forever to soup them all.

I once had an M3 (sigh). Well, moving right along, I've currently got the Russian RF GAS attackand await the posts from Russia. Couple of months ago I had the Bessa R and Bessa L attack, but now that I've GASSED them (and a couple of lenses) I've calmed down in that sector.

Actually, as I think about it, if I sold every camera system I've got, I could probably afford an M6 or M7 (but I don't know squat about which is which and which is best) and a couple of used lenses. But maybe a squeaky-clean-just-CLA'd M3 would do just as well?

i went to sf state in the 70's... :) i'm scared to tell you what (equipment) i have...... however i did recently acquire an m-3 that is presently 'quietly sitting on the shelf' at dag... awaiting perusal..

I accidentally wandered through the desert southwest in 1976 and encountered Bisbee. Bought a house two days later and quit my almost-tenured position at a university in Illinois (hated Illinois). The day after I moved in I arose early and wandered downtown looking for breakfast. As I approached City Park a woman passed by, staring intently at me as she did so. Somewhat unsettled, I turned around. She, too, had turned around. She raised an arm and pointed an index finger accusingly at me. "Scorpio," she said. And walked off.

I realized I'd moved to an interesting town.

She's a beautiful lady - even in the nude! What possibilities!

Silk is too slick. Leather is always great. As long as she's got class!

Be sure to keep us posted, Frank.

Can you get coverings for many different cameras from Aki-Asahi? I'm about to get a FED 2 that may need some help.

Ted

I've tried accessing the Aki-Asahi website, but can't find any pictures of leather samples that they must have. Can anyone help me with that? (I've seen the coverings offered at cameraleather: I like the black lizard skin and the dark grey snakeskin.)

You bet. I ordered some for my FED2, haven't done it yet.

I have a red faux lizard skin from Aki-Asahi if anybody want's it, swap for something fun.

"red faux lizard skin."

Let me think about that for a day or two.

I'll have to go get it out of my project box, take your time.

It was included free with my order fo a nice black skin for my FED2.

Hi Frank,

Have you settled on a covering yet? In case you haven't, I ordered one (standard black) from Aki-Asahi and it arrived within a week for a mere $19. I haven't had a chance to install the cover on my M2, but I'll say it looks sharp and the cut seems very precise.

Exactly my experience: very reasonable prices (not to say, cheap), very good cut, and very swift delivery (and no surcharges for "handling").

Hmm ... I saw all those skins at cameraleather and Aki-Asahi ...

Does anybody know if they are also selling the uncut leathers?
Or anybody who knows a source for those?

I like the idea just to cut the shapes, no extra glue. My Ambi
Silette is still naked.

Thanks
rudi

I would just ask there - Aki-Asahi respond very quick to emails, I guess they might help you...

Aki seems very forthcoming with his replies, and he definitely isn't afraid to go to any length to help you. When I asked him if he could cut me the Japanesque Gold cover for my M2 he was a little sceptical whether Japanesque Gold would suit the camera but nevertheless he cut the cover for me and sent it swift as lightning. If Aki has a cutting shape for an Ambi he'll cut for you. And perhaps he'd be willing to send you an uncut piece so you can cut your own.
