It was a really fun meet-up. I drank a little too much, played with cameras I shouldn't have played with for wallet's sake, and took a bunch of photos. I'll post some soon... too busy today!

Frank, that fine gentleman is Carl. He sits in the Board of the LHSA.
Andrea, you should bring your daughter with you next time. I like the subway shot that she took a lot.

Here in this picture is our first waitress. Without seeing any cameras with me (all covered in my bag), she knew where I belong the moment I walked in the bar. We probably stayed too long, another waitress had to take over half way. When I paid, the new waitress with longer hair said, "So, you guys are photographs, huh?!" I replied, "Well, we actually are rangefinder photographers." She had that clueless look on her face and then reluctantly smiled. She probably thought, what a "camera nerd."

Boy was that a lot of fun. Glad I came, even if it was a bit late!

I was there first and I told the rather cute waitress that a group of camera nerds were converging and to be aware that there could be $100K worth of cameras laying on the table. She kinda freaked out and throughout the afternoon always handed beer and food to people and she never placed anything on the table.
Carl's black paint M2 with Leicavit is in some of the pictures. About half the paint is worn off. Carl also brought a Leica III with a three lense turret like a Bolex movie camera.
I believe there were two Noctiluxes, and two LHSA black paint M6's. It was a bit of a gearfest.
The overall scene kinda reminded me of Van Gogh's painting "The Potatoe Eaters" except we were all gathered around a round table feasting on gear. The basement where the bathrooms were had an interesting shot because a seperate bar was secured by bars like a prison cell redifining a "Drunk Tank."

Thanks for organizing. Great turn out. It was fun! Got a few pictures from it. Looking forward to Feb's.
Cal - I am hoping the next meet up on Jan 27th, Sunday as I will be away / NOT available on the 19th, 20th and 26th. But, do what works for more folks.
John
John, I'll check with Barret to try and set up The Second Annual Leica M-Body Beaty Pagent for Sunday January 27th. You have mucho cool gear. BTW like last year you should have multiple entries.
Do you still have that black paint M2? Also did I happen to see a second Noctilux at the table that was your? Please enter the BP M2, the "New" M9, and that LHSA M6.
SMUT: I will start a rumor that possibly the guy with the "Vintage M9" from last year's event might have a 0.95. It appears that you have a lot of cool glass.
If you think the January event was a gearfest, I expect the pagent will be even crazier than last year. This year's judge/MC will be Barret again because he shoots Hexar RF'ers, but finalists will be judged initially on two lens kits with unlimited amounts of acessories. At the judge's discrection a third lens might be allowed to be a tie-breaker.
I've already scoped out the balcony where we can fit a bi-big crowd.

I think we might have to start taking out insurance for these events!

Cal - That was a Nokton f/1.1. I am still trying to convince my wife why do I "need" a Noctilux. I don't think I will get the approval prior to the end of Feb. In fact, it may take another full year of good behavior.
And yes, I still have my repaint black M2 with rapid load and M6 type rubber eyepiece ... and I will make sure to put the protective sticker back on the top and base plate for Damaso.
I tentatively block February 27, Sunday (apologies for my typo earlier) in my calendar. Looking forward to more details.

One of the best things I ever did was buy my girlfriend a Cartier watch. (We've been together living in sin for 13 years. LOL.). I told Tung that it was like having a "get outa jail card" that never expires. LOL.
I think we will conquer the balcony where we will have more room to move and spread gear. Also for security since there's only one way in and one way out.
SMUT UPDATE: Not sure if the guy with the "Vintage M9" got to only try a 0.95 or actually bought one. Brutal I say.

John,
Try putting on a poker face and tell your wife a Noctilux is not just another lens but a wise investment. That worked for me and I even brought my wife to B&H to pick up my Noctilux. Yeah, a Cartier watch will do, too. lol.

I think you should buy that Noctilux and sell me the Nokton.

I think you should buy that Noctilux and sell me the Nokton.I'm ready to use a 50mm on my M8...but it's gotta be fast!
Its hard to justify another fast lense, when you have a 75 Lux and a Noct-Nikkor, but a 28/2.0 Cron ASPH would be nice.
Cal
Yeah, I hear ya Cal... I'm just too cheap for that... so I'll have to go Voigtlander again. However, you are a big shot, so you should be able to buy that 28mm summicron no problem.

Dude,
I'm no big shot. All the gear I own I use the piss out of. None of my cameras are shelf queens (well except the Bolex movie camera I got for free by flirting with a girl). LOL.
Also I own two CV lenses (Nickel Heliars) that I love. I quote you and you said, "Just use the best tools to do the job." (or something like that.)
The 28 Cron is simply a great lens that suits me, but in the meantime I still love that 28/3.5 Cannon/Seranar that cost me only $420.00 with M-mount adapter and Canon VF'er.
I'm about as broke as you. Two weeks ago I only had $30.00 for film because I bought all these used filters. Don't peg me as a Leica snob because you know I even shoot those annoying Nikon F3's that are obnoxious and loud like me. LOL

I can't believe you took that seriously. Relax ... I meant big shot in attitude not in monetary terms. You should know me better than that.
Hmmm, I'm not broke at all... I'm just thrifty when it comes to gear due to what I deem as incremental differences. I'm more of a Leica body lover than a Leica lens person. I have no problem with Leica snobs either... I get why people like Leica.
