Went to the Log Cabin Smoked Meat Sandwich shop with Andrew for lunch.
He came to our house, I showed him around, and he met “Maggie.”
In conversation I contrasted my attitude about the gated communities, the art world, and all about the commodification, compromising, and co-opting… My usual rant, but also contrasted it with “Maggie’s” experience being a celeb, Digital Influencer, public figure, and published author.
Basically she never understood or really respected my reasoning, my attitude, and my methods for over 27 years, and now she is drawn into my wisdom and reasoning after her “I told you so,” experience.
Andrew challenged me by suggesting that because I didn’t need an audience, need recognition, public attention, monetary rewards, and Al-Cal-Aids that I pursued a path of having no Ego, but I corrected him and told him that my Ego is so big that I know that I’m kinda better than that nonsense. Why would I want to pursue “nonsense?”
So in a way I guess I’m arrogant and cocky, and not really humble at all. It actually takes a lot of balls, or big balls, to have the Ego and self esteem to say, “Screw all that,” and that “I want to remain authentic.”
I’m digging into this guitar playing prodogy named Julian Lage who started playing guitar at age 4 and started playing out at age 8.
For me the most helpful is the state of mind he promotes that not only is a way to play and improvise on the guitar, but also presents a mindset to live life. Pretty much to play for yourself and not be concerned with the audience, viewers, or the outside world.
There is a lot of epiphany and crossover happening today that is kinda profound, and I have not played the guitar today yet.
Anyways I took a Great Leap Forward and am newly inspired…
Got a full tour and more history about Renold’s Hills. A cottage across from Andrew’s will likely become available because the owner, a woman, died. Set close to and next to other cottages, about 70 in total, this likely is the smallest and it is the size of a one car garage or about 200 square feet. Andrew says that this small cottage is likely the smallest in the community. This also would have the lowest costs.
The rest of the communal property is pretty much secluded forest on top of a hill. This is a private community and even though not with a physical gate, is kinda a gated community.
Legally Andrew and his wife are kinda grandfathered in along with the caretaker’s house as being the only legal full time residents. Andrew reports that when they sell their cottage it will revert to being only 3-season as the rest of the community, unless transferred to a family member.
I had mentioned that if a private camp and more rural surrounds is required that a cottage in Renold’s Hills would foot the bill, and litterally would be an extension of our back yard about a quarter mile walk up a steep hill. There is a good chunk of wilderness that extends about 2-blocks to Washington Street, and of course there also is the public land, Dickey Brook, and the other side of the marsh.
A while back during the summer I mentioned Renold’s Hills as being a means and a ways to have a very practical solution to having a guest house, and studio space that is an away place in a rural setting, but of course it was dismissed.
Kinda funny how this is now an idea she is keen on and looks likely to pursue.
This too happened with the free gym memberships in our MediCare Advantage plans. When it was my suggestion it got discounted, but when it became her idea…
So you can see I deal a lot with “woman-factor.” I repeat, “There is a reason why men have shorter lifespans than women.”
The property cost is kinda low, but include the taxes and maintenance fees, it is not so cheap. Might be cheaper though than building/converting the two-car garage into a carriage house as a studio.

DU,
Just above Peekskill on the east side of the Hudson River is a town called Garrison. Garrison got it’s name because during the Revolutionary War it was a troop encampment. It’s location is just opposite West Point that is a natural fortress. West Point is a narrowing of the Hudson River, and the west side of the Hudson is a bit of a cliff. The Hudson River in some places near West Point has a depth that exceeds 100 feet.
Peekskill is an old industrial city that contains a wide section of the Hudson. They call it a “bay.” There is the Bear Mountain Bridge that crosses the Hudson at Peekskill, on the northern flank of the city, and on the west side it leads to two not small State Parks.
Understand that Peekskill is “The Gateway to the Hudson Highlands” which is where mountains and river meet. The Hudson Highlands inspired The Hudson River School Of Painting.
In the novel “On The Road” by Jack KIRO-WACK his journey to the great American West gets stalled because back in the 1950’s no one stopped to pick him up to take him west. He got stalled and headed back down to NYC start his journey west.
Peekskill was not mentioned, but I know he got stuck here.
At one time there were wolverines in New York. These fierce animals know no fear and have been reported to confront bears. They are solitary animals and are known to have great ranges. Likely one of natures most scrappy animals. I don’t believe they still inhabit New York, but the only likely holdout for them because of the amount of wilderness they require they could in theory exist in the Adirondack State Park which is the biggest state park in the lower 48.
Thanks for the heads up about my friends the chipmunks. Pretty much “woman-factor” yet again.
I can fight Cancer, but I can’t win against “woman-factor.”

This great player, Julian Lage, plays Jazz on a Telecaster. He also plays not using effects.
He likes using small amps to get the sound/tone to be touch sensitive and for the amp bloom. I call this playing the amp as well as the guitar.
Anyways, sound familiar to my postings?
I learned a lot today…
One thing though is one lesson I learned today is to have a private practice space where you can work uninterrupted and be alone to concentrate. I need to plug in to play the amp as well as the guitar. Also my acoustic guitars get mighty loud. It is best when “Maggie” is in her shed.
Only recently does she really understand artistic solitude.
As far as Renold’s Hills go, politically it was a socialist leaning group of garment workers that kinda set up a leftist commune. Maggie now embraces the legacy and history. To me she is confused between solidarity, community, and her own independence.
I’m so dizzy that I might have vertigo.
I guess when I’m doing the hormone therapy that I might have my own version of woman factor. I might get crazy and make no sense. Logic and reason might have no meaning as I simply go hysterical for no reason. It should be interesting the role play of being a nasty bitch. LOL.

My second order of strings came in. I’m stockpiled for my electrics and my acoustics.
I am likely stocked up for more than a year or perhaps two years on electric guitar strings, and maybe a year on acoustic strings.
Andrew lent me a book by Yale University Press, “Followers Of The Trail.” This a book about working class Jewish radicals. Reynold’s Hills is mentioned in several places.
My prediction is this lefty bent will hook into “Maggie.”
Anyways, somehow today I feel like a very different man. I grew a lot today.

DU,
Wolverines I deeply admire. They wander around a lot. They are also loners that are hard to detect. My hope is that some may actually live in Adirondack State Park and are undetected.
BTW I am pro immigration. No economy can grow with a declining population. Wolverines are free to cross the border.
Perhaps I should profile those aggressive Montreal women as Wolverines.

Cloudy with rain and snow today. The temperatures are too high for any accumulation.
There is a lot of learning going on with the guitar, but I have to be honest and say there is some great progress as far as concept and theory, but the real work is in execution. This will take discipline and time.
Julian Lage plays an OM sized Collins flat top as his acoustic and tries to play Telecasters, an electric guitar, as if an acoustic.
Have a Santa Cruz OM that has killer Brazilian Rosewood. The Model “F’s” are a size up for a bigger sound that is less scooped.
I kinda do this crossover between acoustic and electric to the extent that I use heavy gauge strings with a wound “G” that has the feel and closely simulates the feel of an acoustic guitar. This is part of my individual style that developed independently.
Julian does not bend strings, I do, only a half-step, and I also use vibrato. Know that bending usually is reserved for light gauge strings, or tuning down like Stevie Ray V. I guess my style is more influenced by the blues and somehow has a vocal quality.
One thing I need to concentrate more on is moving up and down the neck more. Could be fun.
Pretty much at this point in my playing a lot of mistakes are needed to learn and advance. Mucho experimenting and a real exploration is required and needed. This is why a private alone space is encouraged.
I need to plug in more to really unify my hand, guitar and amp. The concept of playing the amp is ever true.
There is this term called “woodshedding” and this is a time of playing alone to internalize playing into gut feeling and instinct. Louis Armstrong is said to taken 2 years of his life living in poverty where he dedicated his entire life into blowing his horn as if it was the only meaning in his life.
My friend Ken MacIntire suggested that I do that when I’m ready. Ken sadly past about 2 decades ago. He was a remarkable man who changed my life when I was a lost kid of 19 in college. He taught me the lesson of going big, and all the way, otherwise don’t waste your time or his. I can’t tell you how important this man Doctor Macintre was/is important to me.
BTW he was a very intimidating black man with a shaved head and a beard. Many students were afraid of him. I was, until I approached him in private in his office.
Sadly, I dropped his course because I knew my limits, and I knew my issues and challenges I needed to work out to find the peace and seclusion required to do what Ken suggested. Now is the time. Now is almost 50 years later…
Let’s see what I have to give… I hope to have the time… BTW the guitar is something I kinda waited to live for.

I need a 10 gauge 100 foot extension cord, about $179.00 at Home Cheapo, then a 1500 watt 120 volt space heater.
10 gauge can handle and is designed for up to 30 amps. Doing the math using 120 volts and 1500 watts into the formula P=IE makes for 12.5 amp full current draw. Overkill…
No permit required, no electrician… simply run an extension cord from the garage’s 100 amp service.
“Maggie’s” cedar shed gets heated.

Interesting to note that China and the Eurozone (dominant players being Germany and France) are basically export economies.
Trade wars and tariffs will deeply effect both friends and enemies. China is experincing a deflationary spiral (overcapacity) and also has a banking crisis brewing/on going with mucho bad debt beside having problems raising foreign capitol. Germany and France who are the big players in Europe are already suffering an economic decline and slowdown.
So here you have the second and third largest economies in the world if you count the E.U. ,as a whole, already in a downturn with the screws to be tightened to apply further pressure beginning early next year.
I don’t think the U.S. is prepared for the unintended consequences of a likely probable world recession and slowdown. There already are many deep structural problems already, and the U.S. can’t operate in a vacuum. There certainly will be a response to tariffs that point to higher prices on U.S. exports and a resulting slowdown here in the U.S. as retaliation. The question is whether the U.S. can defy gravity when the rest of the world is sinking.
The stock markets suggests that the bets are the U.S. can unilaterally win and come out ahead. If this bet is incorrect wel-then “look out below.”
What a mess. Also do you believe the stock market valuations. There is betting that the U.S. will win this game and have it’s way. Will the U.S. economy benefit from the incoming policies? Do you think the economy will grow or contract? Don’t forget that the debt loads are already are high and are projected to lead to even higher deficits of an increase of 4-5 Trillion Dollars.
What about inflation? Is that a problem?
Pretty much the definition of insanity because economic history has shown where all this is going. Do you expect a different outcome? If you do, maybe you too are insane.
On a positive note the Alder Tele body (1-piece) is expected to be delivered this Friday.
Will be going to the gym today.

It’s been 4-days since I tried to schedule my specialized PET scan. They are booked out about 2 weeks is the smut. Tuesday I was told that my insurance approval is required before I can schedule an appointment.
Today I decided to call my insurance provider to get an insight and to see if there is any holdup.
I found that there was no record at my insurance. My thinking is that I wasted 4-5 days because I had initially called Monday. I was told that it takes 5-10 days to process. This was a surprise.
Then I call my hospital to find out if they did their job managing a polite inquiry. There I find out that it is the chicken and the egg scenario. Of course there is no record because it is “pending,” but meanwhile both parties are caught pointing fingers at each other.
So I pretty much see I have to be “a better man” and not get pissed off or ho hysterical. This is pretty much the process I expect going forward.
Today is day 4 or 5 depending when the hospital initiated this process.
I understand that in Canada there are serious shortages of doctors and long waits. Seems like the diagnostics early on are a bottleneck…

Today’s weigh in is a 159 pounds even. Physically I look trimmer in the waist/torso. There is more definition, but I guess the weight gain is in my legs and butt. Muscle is denser than fat.
I only did a half hour on the elliptical and then 15 minutes on a stationary bike. I upped the resistance on the elliptical, and I also used a lot of resistance on the stationary bike siting upright with a still upper body tio work on strengthening my legs and torso.
At this point I think I’m kinda safe from aggravating the bursitis.
Bought a large turkey to donate to a family in need. Tomorrow is the Turkey Trot where turkeys are gathered and donated to take care of families in need in our community. Made a donation to the Salvation Army at the super market.
Just north and east of us we saw snow on the ground. Another storm is expected around Thanksgiving.
I started reading “Followers Of The Trail.” Pretty much is photographs and interviews performed by a guy of college age who grew up in the community of Reynold’s Hills spending summers there as a kid.
At that time it was a Jewish community of working class immigrants with leftist leanings and politically radical. The book was published by Yale University Press.
I mentioned this to “Maggie” who published an academic text with a lawyer, “Social Work And The Law.” This text I would call a
“Classic” that is still in print that is more than a decade old. It also is coming out as a second revised edition. Every year Maggie gets a royalty check. In this form of publishing there is no advance.
So I inquired if this would be a good business model for her to pursue. It seems so. Also know that the author of “Followers Of The Trail” got some grant to sponsor his work.
Anyways this is an interesting model to follow verses the regular publishing industry. If done correctly you can maintain control of the work instead of the work getting controlled or co-opted. Hmmm…
So pretty much I need to go to the gym more. We are talking about doing that and going at least twice a week, then I have to do my own supplemental workouts involving more cardio to control the weight gain, and also strength training before hormone therapy that will promote lean muscle loss due to testosterone production shut down.
The goal here is to get leaner and more muscular to try and get a jump on the future progression that is expected.
I can see biking being UBER important in the spring to aid in my fitness and recovery. No fooling around next year, and the start kinda begins now. Need to bulk up and build strength while I still have testosterone.
The B5 made in USA Bigsby will get delivered today. Very cool.

At a certain point I give up.

I will see how I sleep tonight. Bursitis if I still have it will flare up at night when I lay flat.
Tomorrow I’ll start some weight training.
The Bigsby B5 came. It should add a new dimension to my playing. Locking tuners are a good thing, and I have locking Sperzels on the DeMarino. Maybe…
Hmmm…

Ted Decker, Jeff Bezos, they are both billionaires foisting goods on us made overseas by people who are almost enslaved. Our existence and subsistence within the US is one of hypocrisy and taking advantage of "enslaved" people, always has been, who knows about the future of always will be. One thing is for certain is that the US currently lives way beyond its means as a nation, and isn't willing to consume any less, for any reason whatsoever.
The copper and zinc in that cord are almost certainly mined by people who don't get paid enough for the particulate and toxic exposure they encounter daily. Copper mining is one of the most destructive forms of mining as it entails the removal of entire mountains, turning them into giant holes visible to the naked eye from low earth orbit.
I'm complicit as we all are, so I say feel free to go the amazon route for the simple convenience of it and not having to make a trip yourself. The product may even be the same one between both vendors.

Phil,
I am jammed between the moral dilemmas and feel deep guilt of the enslaved as you put it.
Open pit mining is so destructive.
Jeff Bezo’s does not even treat his own workers nicely. Pretty much used and disposed of as any commodity. I table all this with “Maggie” and now she learns that when and if she quits her $300.00 Amazon subscription that she will lose and have deleted all the E-books she bought.
I do my small part, but it can’t compete against the greed and destruction of big business.
Tomorrow I will likely write a check to help the homeless and hungry in my very local community. I restored my backyard to foster wildlife and for the comeback of native plants. I created a micro forest in the dead-end, I am a careful recycler…
I killed a thicket of Japanese Knotweed by hand, doing prison labor, to not use herbicides like Roundup.
We buy used…
As you know I keep what I buy.
Maggie talks a lot, but she does not walk the talk as much as I do. I called her out on being an Amazon Prime member and all the evil and exploitation she directly supports.
We Americans are morally bankrupt. You don’t have to be Jeff Bezo’s or a billionaire to be a morally bankrupt.
BTW my anti-China sentiment dates back to the 80’s with the re-education camps and cultural destruction of Tibet. Today this is still going on in Western China against a different ethnic group.
Americans supported this knowingly and unknowingly.

When I worked at Home Despot in 2013, several times I was reprimanded due to working more than 28 hours per week. If an employee passes 32 hours a week in NJ, then they are eligible for full benefits, by law. So we were always understaffed, and I could have easily worked a 60 hour week of I wanted. It wasn't my fault that my supervisor scheduled me for more than 30 hours a few times, then I had to explain it to the regional director. The whole system is set up for failure, while demanding hours from employees that don't allow a person to dedicate any time to a second job. The other caveat was the legal obligation for the employer to pay overtime for more than 8 hours in a day. So they'd ask 4 hours, 6 days a week, at $17/hr. Home Despot and Lowe's are both just as bad as each other and any other huge box store. They all shout USA, when most of the goods are imported from Asia, save for a very few, which are only assembled in part or even just boxed in the USA. There is no end to the hypocrisy.
I don't blame you specifically, as we all must consume some things to survive; if you eat most produce between the months of September and April, it comes from overseas; wood and wood products usually come from SE Asia, save from a few from Canada; electrical comes from India; electronics come from China and Malaysia. Aside from Canada, none of these places have the environmental regulations in place to keep employees safe, so we as a nation, are just using up humans who make our goods; a different kind of indentured servitude and a different kind of consumption.
