My fave cut on this album. Love it.
Devil Dan,
I owned a 50’s Les Paul Custom like the one on the cover Al is holding.
Mine was an early one that originally has routed for Humbuckers, so the vintage value was destroyed, but it was first owned by Ronnie Montrose, and then sold to Rod Price of Foghat fame.
My LP was heavy, had a thigh thick neck, and was a really nice guitar. Somehow Rod Price sold off many of his guitars and the shop I worked in got the entire collection.
I ended up selling the guitar to a friend named Mark, now deceased, who was one of the guitarists in the band Riot. Mark played an original vintage cherry burst LP. Know also he was a big fan of Ronnie Montrose.
I miss this guitar because it was so great, but I’m not really a Gibson player.
I think I love Al the best when he played with Chic-Ore-E-A.
Kinda funny is that I’m drawn to Jazz because I can’t spell. LOL.

Devil Dan has me revisiting the 70’s, and I spent some time listening to Return To Forever recordings. Decades have passed…
I wondered if it would have the fascination and appeal, and it does and it doesn’t. I guess I am changed, have grown, or gotten old. So now I’m feeling a bit lost. How odd a feeling, and perhaps the feelings I had as a teenager have returned.
The takeaway I’m ranting about is somehow I need to be patient, but I want things to be settled. “Maggie” has a lot going on with writing a book, I’ve taken up a lot of the slack, and she exacerbates the situation because of anxiety and impatience.
I can see how I’m trying to relax, but I really can’t. It is not that I’m unhappy, but coping is becoming a bit difficult. Some of my binge spending on guitars last year was needed, but that has to stop.
Today a the custom door we ordered and sidelights will be delivered, and the contractor will demo and install. Pretty much an expensive detail that has to be done to restore the house to the Craftsman 1912 style.
Our Baby-Victorian already has a lot of curb appeal. We spent a lot of money on a new brick stoop and custom wrought iron railings.
The newest chapter of CF mode was I used two coupons from CVS: $10.00 off a $70.00 purchase; and a rewards bonus that was almost $13.00. Pretty easy to bulk up on domestic supplies. Part of retirement is saving money wherever I can. I will also be ordering that cedar shed and save 10%.
The door just arrived.
Happy-happy.

The new door and sidelights was one big assembly and a bit of a monster. It took a crew of 4 men to get it into place.
So now the Baby-Victorian looks like a mini mansion. The Craftsman style is back and replaces an entrance that was fugly.
The door and sidelights are weather sealed so my contractor says it would be easy to make my enclosed porch a 4-season room.
Hmmm…
The framing my contractor chose to use is cedar To match what is already existing. A nice touch. I am pleased with our contractor.

In the end of August I got Covid from my granddaughter. Took a while for the cough to go away, and I was fearful that I might have Long-Covid.
When I worked at the hospital pretty much I was among the first to get vaccinated, and because “Maggie” is older than me she too was among the very first to get vaccinated. With Maggie she had very strong side effects from the Moderna vaccine and subsequently even the Moderna booster.
I kinda figure we were/are part of some research experiment because of the fast track release and approval. Pretty much the vaccines were not fully tested.
Now there is research that suggests heart damage in healthy and even in young people from the vaccines. In some cases it is suggested that some healthy people have unexpectedly died.
Also after Labor Day we have been doing a day care for the grand children: a 8 1/2 year old; and a now 4 month old baby.
Pretty much because of the grand kids we repeatedly have caught any and every ailment from the kids.
I know Maggie and I are a small sampling, but it seems evident that since we had Covid our immune systems seem to be weakened and not fully restored. Know that we decided to get Flu shots but no further Covid boosters.
In Maggie’s case she says that her immune system seemed to have been weakened from when she got her first Covid vaccination (Moderna). She actually got sick for a few days after getting vaccinated.
In my case vaccination was a non event. On the second shot and with the booster I did not even experience localized soreness at the injection site.
The takeaway is I think Covid weakened my immune system. Generally Maggie can get sick and I don’t get ill. More or less I never get sick, not even a cold, but now after Covid I seem to be catching every childhood disease.
It almost seems like my immune system regressed and I am like a child where I have to rebuild my immune system. At this point Maggie and I seem kinda vulnerable.
Know I have this rough cough still from before Christmas, it still persists, but it is getting better.

There have been studies published from many countries showing that the more you are jabbed, the higher your chance of getting it.
You will never see this on main stream media however as they get so much revenue from big Pharma. Pfizer has paid more fines for fraudulent products than any company in history. Yet they remain a major player. Should be investigated, but probably never will. Too much $$$ at stake.

Healthcare is big business certainly. Drugs have side effects, and I think with the Covid vaccines some unintended consequences like heart damage in some individuals shown in research and actuary’s death tolls of young people.
Clearly our government supports big business over public health.

SMUT: I got insider info that there will be a 3% cut and layoffs at my old hospital.
In my group also there has been some turnover. A nuclear chemist left that I know and worked with for over 15 years, a Nuclear Pharmicist I knew also left, and a technician also left.
No layoffs though are expected in the “Core” I belonged to.
Speculated that my Chemist coworker asked for a promotion and did not get it. Oh-well.
The Pharmist has a trust fund and actually took a demotion, so that tells you something.
Meanwhile my insider got a promotion into a management position and got a 35% raise.

Just got back from a Long Island dental cleaning.
Took us a while to get back on top of all the checkups, screenings, and preventative maintenance. Not so sure other Americans have the time to catch up.
I figure some Covid related deaths will be due to falling behind on medical care. We don’t want to be part of that statistic.

Don’t tell Fed Ex, but the last cedar shed delivery I got I kinda got a “lift gate” service for free.
With the cedar pergola pretty much the driver and hand unloaded a pallet, and I figured the same would happen when the shed got delivered, but in fact the driver used a pallet jack and lift gated the entire pallet into my driveway.
I covered it with a tarp and stored it there until I could create an envelop of time to build it out. Had to build out a foundation first… a pressure treated platform for some elevation, and a backfill of peanut gravel.
The new twice as big cedar shed has the same pallet size footprint but is stacked taller. Something like 1100 pounds.
I imagine that from Canada Fed Ex heads into the U.S., so I think this is why somehow tariffs and taxes somehow get skirted.
I think somehow at my local Fed Ex depo they know that my neighborhood is a maze of dead ends and small streets that will not allow a tractor trailer, and they just happen to use a truck with a lift gate.
So pretty much “Slippery” Calvin kinda bypasses payments and gets a service for free. Of course I tip the driver handsomely, he is just a working guy.
So I gamble again. Pretty much I’m an optimist, and I think I will get over again. Let’s see… Worse case is that I get billed for the lift gate at delivery. Oh-well I say. Just call me “Slippery Calvin.”
I intend on doing a tare-off and replacing the hip roof on my 20x21 foot garage. I deem the garage as a two-car, but the city says it is a 1 1/2 car garage. Somehow the 1966 C-10 of “Gas Guzzler” fame that somehow annoyed someone (a jerk) greatly, barely fits in the garage. Don’t tell the building inspector they made a mistake…
Another project is building garage doors that are like barn doors. I got an estimate for some Cloplay insulated garage doors and at $7K it seemed like buying wood working tools like a nice table saw, a router, and a radial arm saw would be gained assets, even if I go the route of using cedar to make my own barn doors.
Pretty much I would make very handsome custom doors, perhaps save money (the goal), and then have useful power tools as a huge bonus.
I think the barn doors have value added because the garage would more resemble a carriage house. Know that my garage door openings are 8x8, meaning they are about a foot taller than most standard garage doors. Inside I would effectively have a vaulted hip roof ceiling without garage door tracks.
The inside lacks structural rafters, so I could build out and add a storage loft, maybe for a third or a half of the garage, or maybe only one side keeping the second side vaulted.
I think I like the idea of cedar and letting it get bleached by the sun and weathered. I might even be able to use reclaimed lumber. My lumber yard goes back to the 1850’s and clearly is the oldest lumber yard in Westchester. I already am good friends with James the owner.
Have to get a spring or hydralic door pull for the new front entrance to make it woman and child proof. My enclosed front porch can now easily be a 3-season space. I think I will leave it at that, but I will insulate the roof and ceiling to snug it up.
Things are moving slowly, but the quality of work is such that it is a slow process. I now understand that with Covid and the slow economy booby trapped with shortages that will likely not go away as long as the Ukraine War continues and the secondary war on inflation.
Thanks Austin for helping me realize the above is the harsh reality.
In effect the world is at war whether we realize it or not: one war is in the Ukraine; and the second war is with inflation. We live in fraught times…
One thing about being “Slippery” is you embrace risk, but are prepared for the unintended consequences. That article about positive mental attitude, risk taking, sense of adventure, and open attitude that often leads to good luck seems to be true if I am a case study. I have more than my share of good luck.
I figure I later learned that I kinda got the back-backyard for free (a second building lot).
How lucky is that. Know my Baby-Victorian went unloved because it was not a turnkey house.

Cal,
This is my first Peco Junior that is outfitted with the original lenses from the catalog. Silvenstris are kewl, but who rides around in a Ferrari for short hops? This cam came with cool accessories. Note the magnifier which slides side to side for bright viewing. It was about 300 Bucks with the Bundespost fee, worth every penny. I believe the magnifier is homemade custom for Makina Backs, a one of a kind I guess. With the 65mm F8 (the exact one made for this lens marked 65,, F8), this is sharp enough for MF digital, too. The 65mm F8 is a tiny jewel of a lens. Actually I have three different versions of it for different cameras.
The point is, you can put this in a bike bag and cycle with it. I'm shooting some handheld with this; it was designed to do so. They made a two piece viewfinder that fits this for handheld.

I still love Ferrari and Sylvestri’s though. LOL. Creative minds daydream and have fantasies… Perhaps I’m delusional, but I’m cool with that. Better than being boring in my book.
Truth is I love all the cameras I already have and can afford pretty much no more.
Anyways happy-happy.
Having medium format glass that is digital ready is a great asset.
What say you as possibilities of format and a digital back?
Your Pecorino Junior certainly is a step towards a Silvestri. Know that I don’t think any of my film medium format gear is digital ready.
At this point I would likely just go 4x5 film and perhaps 8x10 to go crazy. I think once I have a darkroom I will likely do a Devil Dan and go crazy for a while.
It might take me a lifetime to undo the mess I made shooting film when it was inexpensive, and making just negatives with a total and complete disregard to printing.
Anyways I’m glad I did because now I have a historical archive of NYC post 2007-2008 until Covid. Much of the old NYC disappeared as developers destroyed the old NYC, and government made NYC a safe place for rich people.
Unfortunately I documented the gentrification that eventually kicked me out of the city, but it is wonderful to have a historical archive of a “disappearing New York.”
Anyways I am stalking you and I’m in your shadow. LOL.
Sometime you just have to do crazy stuff to feel alive…

Compare the Peco Junior, to the Cambo Actus, or the Mini Arca Swiss digital platforms. The Peco Junior can be made to do a lot of what those can do. And for peanuts, Adorama clearance price seventy bucks. So a no brainer. Most bang for the MF Buck would be a Phase One P25 or P50 which can be had for a couple of Grand. I am watching for these and still learning. Eventually I may pounce. If somebody were to give me a Hasselblad 907X back I'd be good with that.
Crazy is Good. LOL I JBWelded a Sony NexC3 to a Peco Junior board. So I'm shooting "miniature" digital right now and I love it. Kinda liberating, I'm repurposing stuff I've never touched since purchase.

Are all retiree’s lazy-slackers? BTW 47 million people left the workforce. Some are lazy slackers like me who decided to retire early, but many are women who basically would be working to pay for childcare.
Here in New York the cost of childcare is $2K-$2.5K a month. Realize also that women get paid less than men, even for the same job.
My FP-100 I feel needs to get used soon.
Devil Christian 3-D printed a Polaroid back to use on my Linhofs. No darkslide though, but I’m cool with that.
My FP-100 is in my porch basement which is like a refrigerator in the winter. Been there for 2-years. ”Maggie” complained about all the space my film takes up. Before that in Madhattan it was refrigerated. My Polaroid was kinda the last batch.
Don’t tell Maggie, but I have 400 feet of Kodak 5222 and some 70mm film I believe I got from you stored in the freezer.
Lately I’ve been worse than a woman for creating a mess.
When I insulate and seal the front porch up then I can insulate the porch floor. I might use the porch basement and build it out as a darkroom. Don’t tell Maggie.

I underestimated the weight of my 8x8 cedar shed, fact is that it is 1250 pounds.
If no lift gate service happens the shed kit will get unloaded by hand.
So I hope I’m lucky and get a free lift gate service. I’m in CF mode, but I’m also a Lazy-Slacker.
Will I be lucky?
You guys should set up a pool. Would you bet against me?
“Fools are lucky,” they say.
Know that I likely still weigh under 150 pounds and I’m 5’!0”.

Sadly, Jeff Beck died. Age 78.
I’m a big fan of his early work (Yardbirds).
Because of his chops I’m also a fan of using a one pickup Fender Tele called an “Esquire.”
An amazing player.
