My Baby-Victorian is safe. There are a row of White Pines that can grow mighty tall that are about 20 feet tall presently. Close by is the last telephone pole that has electric power to the dead end which kinda is a deflector of sorts protecting the garage. I think when that nearest tree closest to the garage might have to get axed and chopped when it gets ten feet taller.
Insurance is kinda a rip-off IMHO. You really kinda get hosed if you try to make a claim, and then your rates go up.
When I lived in NYC 3 out of 4 locations I rented were in FEMA flood zones. I never got flooded, but I figured when I but a home I want to be high and dry. I’m 50 feet above sea level according to my GPS on the Audi which really is the Hudson River. I’m about 30 feet above Dickey Brook and the frog pond behind my back-backyard.
I am in a valley of sorts, but know that spring for us is delayed by 2-3 weeks from just a few blocks north. Understand that cool or cold air is denser and settles into the valleys. Dickey Brook feeds into the Hudson which is not far away.
From my house I hear diesel trains on the Metro North Hudson Line. Also the marsh is a huge sponge. I picked a great place to build my “bunker.”
Now we have a two zone Mitsubishi Mini-split as central AC and as a secondary source of heating. HVAC I consider life support with global warming.
Don’t forget that moving out of a polluted urban environment added 5 years to my lifespan which went from 106 years to 111 years According to a longevity survey. I have to make things sustainable for about 40 years.

In today’s episode of “I Was Just Minding My Own Business” we decided to go to a coffee shop in Cornwall which is inbetween West Point and Newbourgh across the Hudson River and about a 25 minute drive away on a wonderful mountain highway that is spectacular.
When we got out of our Audi it seems we were profile as Madhattanites and creatives. “Maggie” was sporting a Leica CL, a tripod, and a Leica Sofit that she got gifted for free from when she was a digital influencer.
We were enjoying our Pistachio Lattes when two women approached us. One was from London England who lives in Cornwall with her husband a potter who grew up in the area. The other woman was visiting from Astoria, Queens. So we were approached and engaged. Seems the couple from Astoria both went to the School of the Visual Arts: the woman is a designer; and the husband a visual artist with a day-job at NBC doing video/ENG/sports post processing.
We made new friends and exchanged contact information.
In NYC I have actually seen Jake’s work around NYC over the years. Jake seems to get around so now it seems like an envelope of meeting people in the creative community as far north as Poo-Kip-See and south to Madhattan. Seems like more spread out, but not too bad.
The takeaway is that we went on this excursion a bit styled so it was easy to ID us as “Vintage Hipsters” which is one of our hash tags and our branding. Pretty much I was not slouched out in my Hill-Billy rags that I wear most of the time.
Know that I “clean up good” as they say. Does not take much to polish me up it seems. So just getting out of our car upon parking drew people to us.
I’m so glad I met and made new friends today.

Things are happening in a more relaxed manner, and I like it. We keep moving forward, but we don’t get frenzied or crazy.
“Maggie” is less dependent on me for photography, and this is great for me.
Gifting her my Leica CL with 23mm (35mm FOV full frame) was the smartest thing to do.
The adjustments of slowing down and relaxing is finally starting to kick in.

The photos we are taking are now her art direction and she is the photographer. Me under the supervision of another never worked well. LOL.

Cal I could see you with a 1600F or 1000F and those wonderful early lenses. Have you seen what Vince Lupo has been doing with his? And while you are at it, buy yourself a SUPREME Superwide, the first version. They should all take the 70mm backs. Egad I'd love to but another slippery slope :/ Go for it

Devil Dan,
Things are lining up where I think film could get crazy, as well as darkroom printing.
I think after going crazy with digital and Piezography, I think going crazy with analog makes mucho sense.
The garage looks like it will get built out for Calvin in a “Calzone” like manner. Very l;ikely a bit crazy, but definitely not at a Devil Dan level.
I would be limited to a 10x20 space which would be like a clean room and I would have a vaulted ceiling and a storage loft.
When and if the modeling kicks in, then I could really go crazy, because plumbing to the garage might require a septic tank and a pump if I can’t get enough pitch.
Plan “B” is a modest basement free standing darkroom perhaps an 8x12, but with a low ceiling height. Plumbing would be easy.
With plan “B” the garage would still be a clean room, but more of a music studio. Digital printing would reside there. Mini-split HVAC. I already have a hundred amp service to my garage via a new buried cable.
A lot of obsessive thinking and planning…
Next week or so we should be talking with our agent.

I never thought I would go smart, but I’m setting up video and motion detection systems. It all started with not having a doorbell for over two years. Oh-well an update.
Seems like I need a commercial door pull for our new front entrance. The door is weather sealed and mighty heavy. Took 4 men to move the door into place with the added width of side lights.
The new Strat style bridge with CNC’ed stainless steel saddles is scheduled to be delivered today. The Callahan bridge is more styled like a vintage hard tail Strat bridge. The new bridge is heavier and beefier, and I expect a bit more high end/treble-bite/articulation as well as sustain. Not a bad thing.
The Alder body on the Cabronita chops the top a bit, but this also adds a smoothness to the tone and voicing. Very-very different than a standard Tele, and a great addition.
My Cabronita is not a lightweight, while my swamp ash Tele’s are all featherweights, so the differences are welcomed.
I have a Korean Tele with a rosewood neck that kinda has the depth of a strat.

Used some time on this holiday without childcare duties to jump the shark and get some cooking performed to free up time.
Grill some sausages and then hydrated them by simmering in sauce. I used sand witch sized freezer ziplock bags to make portions that I will freeze.
You never know when the “Creature” or “Creature-Junior” might invite themselves for dinner unexpectedly…
Had some appointments to attend to.
Next week we expect a conversation with our agent. Seems like a big response to our “Digital-Book” is pointing to likely gigs.
Call me a big “Ho,” but of course I could use the money.
I have been researching an appropriate door pull for our new front entrance and pretty much it is a commercial duty Grade 1 version used for storefronts. Our front door is kinda heavy.
Still working on our security system. Mounted a spot light/video cam that will look out into the street. My next door neighbor is all wired with cams. My neighbor is a giant. He says XXL does not fit him. Kinda funny when I stand next to him 5’10” 150 pounds.
Pretty much my next door neighbor is a “Monster.” LOL.
Boy are we getting attached to the grandson…
So far no bridge delivery yet, but it still is scheduled for today.

Today’s headline about China’s population drop comes as no surprise to me. 15 years of the one child family, urbanization, and rising standards of living all pointed to a negative population growth. Add onto this the expected impact of Covid and deaths to come.
No economy can grow without population growth.
Ray Dalio, the billionaire, the ex chief of the hedge fund Blackstone is a very smart man, but he did not predict how China’s potential will end in a decline and is unlikely to become the world’s largest economy And surpass the U.S.
Simple economics BTW. How did Ray, a very smart man, get it so wrong?
So I think about my persona, my retirement, my career, and why perhaps I have my attitude that is a rather unique culture. My reflections reveal my cowboy like independence is due to a work ethic that was a privileged experience that included large monumental projects and unlimited budgets that exploited taxpayers monies.
Do you know anyone who worked on a Superconductor Supercollider that had a circumference of 2.7 miles that is visible from space with the naked eye? This was a Brookhaven National Labs. The collider had the world’s largest Helium compressor in the world and used so much energy that it could only be turned on in the winter because otherwise it would drain the grid.
Do you know anyone who was building a spaced based Star Wars weapon to shoot down Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles at Los Alamos National Labs?
Then I worked at Grumman when it was the fourth largest military contractor in the U.S. and then later Northrop Grumman.
I mentioned to “Maggie” how I can envision how our house will eventually be, but she said for her it is overwhelming. Then I think of how I tore open parts of the house, and all the projects I have open and ongoing.
Perhaps the only person who understands is Devil Christian who appreciated how essentially built a high rise and went “VERTICAL” in the one bedroom in our 650 square foot luxury apartment in Madhattan that was basically my printing studio combined with all the clothes, shoes and bags of a fashion blogger.
So pretty much I create “hot messes” but I’m cool with that. Oh-well, that’s always been my life, but I also see how the stuff I do can upset people like perhaps my neighbors and especially Maggie.
My back-backyard is a construction zone, but I just say, “It is a work in progress.” LOL.
So I finally realize that I have a messy life, and that this might annoy people. Also I have the imagination and the stubbornness to actually manifest my vision, meanwhile I annoy people. LOL.
Welcome to my universe, a world of chaos.

On short notice I have to go into the city to ensure my pension is in order.
Kinda funny how HR is remote. One person processes all this and it seems like important matters are all processed at the last minute. Pretty much I take the responsibility of heading in to ensure nothing gets screwed up.
Know that I contacted HR in December, and I was notified that My pension statement had been mailed over a week earlier, yet I did not receive it. I would later learn that somehow it got delivered to a neighbor’s home likely due to a substitute mail man.
This happened just before the holidays…
So I had to head into the city, and now yet again.
Yesterday I got questioned about submitting all my paperwork and documents in an e-mail, and today is the deadline for submission. This is not a small organization BTW and my former employer employs around 18K people, although there are announced layoffs pending of about 3% of the workforce.
I am part of the 47 million that left the workforce. My excuse is I decided to retire early.
I was discouraged to continue working because they killed additions to my pension, so there was no financial reward to continue to work. Secondarily the commute was rough, and thirdly the city did a nose dive. Don’t forget Covid…
I also know that a shortage of Child Care exists, and it is mucho expensive. Many women have also dropped out of the workforce because working to pay for childcare makes no sense.
So now I am officially “old” and I have my Medicare card and I will use some Senior Discounted Metro North Tickets. Don’t tell the conductor that my tickets expired in May of last year. Seems that the conductors never check the expiration date, but I might get “proofed” because I don’t look my age.
Anyways, my attitude is kinda care free, laid back, and relaxed, as if I were just a college student in an art school.
“Oh-well,” I say.

On the train ride in I made a new friend that I met on the platform. Now I have a financial friend to talk about the economy and investing. She works for the British Consulate. Had an interesting talk heading into Grand Central.
Dropped off more paperwork to meet the 12:00 PM deadline so there is no pension delay.
Afterwards I stopped at “Home Cheapo” on 59th Street and Third Avenue to pick up the commercial door pull in oiled bronze for our front entrance.
I was expecting to pay $118.00 plus NYC sales tax, but somehow it came to only eight-one dollars and change which included the tax.
Being honest I even mentioned the discrepancy, but I ended up making the purchase at the lower price. I figure the mistake saved me about $48.00 when you include $5.00 for sales tax.
I figure pretty much a lucky computer error where I received a pre-inflation price. How lucky is that?
This door pull has a 10 year warranty, and is not some cheap crap from China. I can say this without being racist because I’m Chinese, but know it was made I Taiwan.
On the train I got over with using my expired Senior Discount tickets that expired last year in May. How cool is that?

Know that I am aware of the data mining that goes on, and I am very aware of how I am profiled and tracked because back during the Credit Crisis I made some expensive purchases using a credit card and paid them off immediately, but somehow I got “A” listed and mistaken as a very wealthy person.
Within a year I got 4 invites to meet Mayor Bloomburg. He is the shortest Billionaire I know, and pretty much I only met with him once, and I snubbed him the other three times. LOL.
Then I got a free subscription to Forbes magazine, just in case I wanted to buy a Caribbean Island or invest in a country.
I also got invited to join the Hudson Society where I could mingle and socialize with the Power Elite, heads of state, Prime Ministers, and Generals. How crazy is that.
I joke that if I got targeted and kidnapped that there was no one to pay the ransom.
So again data mining connected me to Ray Dalit a billionaire.
Last night I started to read Ray Dalio’s latest book which has been out for a while, but know that somehow this will actually be a second reading for me. Somehow Ray Dalio forwarded me advanced drafts of chapters as he wrote them. Of course I exploited being at work and did my reading there as fodder to make it through a day.
Ray is a very smart man, and here he was providing me with an insider’s view of the world. Ray is also a great researcher and a man with great knowledge. How did I get to be a guest?
So with signing with an agent from London, another example of “just trying to mind my own business.” Initially we tried to walk away, but we got snookered.
I have a former employer (Northrop Grumman) trying to recruit me.
Anyways trying to keep a low profile is hard for me. I stand out too much.

I had to contact the vender of my CNC’ed Strat hardtail bridge because it was suppose to be delivered on or by January 17th.
I learned that my shipment started its journey from the Finger Lakes region of New York, but it left a Syracuse Fed Ex depo on January 14th.
Let’s see how this plays out.
A co-worker at Grumman said to me, “You have this habit of stepping in shit, and then opening a fertilizer factory.” So pretty much I have hope that somehow a positive outcome in my favor will happen. It seems like it always does.
So what if I did not have to head into NYC at the last minute to handle important pension business, would I have gotten the same marked down price at Home Cheapo for the commercial heavy duty door pull and save $48.00, as well as gas and wear and tare on my car?
They call me a “Gas-Guzzler” but remember that comes from someone of retirement age that is stuck in grade school.
I expect a phone call about an hour before the 8x8 cedar shed kit gets delivered That came from Canada. The weather was predicted to be overcast, it is dry and sunny presently, but the ground is wet from rain last night. Oh-well.
Let’s see if “Slippery-Calvin” gets a free lift-gate delivery again like lasagna time. The gamble is that this delivery is 500 pounds more than the lasagna one, because it is a larger shed that is twice the size. The footprint of the pallet should be the same, but much taller.
The maze of dead end streets makes using a tractor trailer not practical or feasible, so I test my luck. Would be awful to have to hand unload 1250 pounds of a kit into my driveway.
Oh-well, let’s see how this second gamble plays out with Fed Ex.
My contractor will be starting my upstairs bathroom soon. Need to inquire about the fixtures. Tile delivery next week. This contractor looks to be better organized and not short staffed like my earlier contractor. I paid for the work shortage though delays and a dragged out prolonged schedule.
Also think my new contractor is higher end and overall is bigger.

Installed the commercial door pull yesterday along with my child care duties of the grandson who will be 5 months at the end of the month.
The oiled bronze finish goes with the door/entrance hardware and looks rather stately I must say, but this is on a rather small and modest house of 1400-1500 square feet.
The enclosed front porch could easily be converted into a 4-season room with insulation and window upgrades, but I think 3-season is good enough. Windows on three sides…
The 8x8 she-shed is a birthday present for “Maggie,” and I expect to benefit from the remote location in the back-backyard because I expect less interruptions and an increase in being able to concentrate without interruptions. Should be able to get more work done. LOL.
On a thread about the Nikkor 35/1.8 in LTM I learned that as few as 1200 lenses were made, and the max might be just 1544 lenses. I had though there were 1500-1700 lenses made. So this is a rather rare lens.
I love the veiling flare wide open. Very romantic and retro looking signature, but also very sharp and with a nice punchy contrast that is not overdone.
Love the small/tiny size and that the distance scale is marked in an uncluttered “feet” only.
My lens has perfect glass BTW. Am I a lucky guy? Know that this lens is now priced about double what I paid for it. Pretty much when I purchased it I knew it was both rare and undervalued. IMHO I think it still is because LTM means it is EZ-PZ to use on a Leica, and this lens does well with Leica digital even though it is 60 years old.
So now I need to get 2 cubic yards of gravel delivered, and I have to buy some pressure treated lumber to build out a foundation for the She-Shed. The location is tucked under some huge spruce trees from my neighbor’s yard, a narrow cement path extends from my rear open porch to the new She-Shed, and pretty much the site edges on a bluff of sorts that overlooks the brook, the frog pond, and a forested hillside. Pretty much an idyllic location that is private and remote.
Know that this shed will have an insulated floor. I have rigid panels that have a radiant barrier already on hand. Because this is not being built on a concrete slab it is classed as a temporary structure and will not increase my taxes. More do I need a building permit.
Rich people say, “No one ever got rich by paying taxes.”

I got my 1274 pound palletized delivery lift-gated for free. This service cost’s $100.00.
I ended up tipping the driver and his helper $50.00 to split and share my good luck. This is a Chinese tradition that they say sharing luck creates more good fortune.
I was informed by one of the guys who said the economy definitely has slowed down and for certain we are in a recession.
I think of Fed Ex or UPS as a proxy for the Dow Jones Transportation Index which can be the early predictor of a recession.
The delivery is bigger than I imagined. I have to use twine and bricks as weights to secure the tarp around the base.
How lucky am I? They say the 4 personality traits that encourage luck are resilience, openness, positive mental attitude, and a sense of playfulness or adventure.
In the end I saved $50.00 today, and around $48.00 yesterday. No tax liabilities on this saved money.
I fine tuned the commercial door closer on our front entrance. Now it works perfectly. Had to increase the pull strength just a bit.
Also know when I opened my garage to pull out a tarp the 1966 C-10 became visible and one guy became illuminated by my barn find.
