New York NYC March Meet-Up

GEAR ALERT: Free Nikon D3X. "Maggie" when she gets paid frm a grant is going to give me $3K to buy a used/fresh D3X in May. I'll be using the 50 "E60" as my fast prime. Also some clarity came about: no strees having to shoot designer collections because "look-books" and images from the designers are covered by others. Also no demand for color printing at this point, so I can create yet another disaster of just blasting away concentrating on just image capture.

** Gear Alert **
I got a free lens today, there's a bit a fog in it and other things wrong with
it so the seller told me to keep it and he refunded the money.

Bob,

Don't be a tease: not allowed. This is the place to brag. Go over the top and give every last smutty detail.

In today's episode of "This Old Camera" Calzone (AKA Cal) gets a surprise black R8 in the mail with a bonus motor/winder.

"So Norm, what do you think Cal likes about this camera?"

"Well its kinda big, extra heavy due to the steel frame that they later changed to aluminum. The metering is rather more advanced than his other rather basic cameras with the switching feature like that monster Pentax 67II of switching from spot, matrix and entire frame. The led display in the VF'er even has a frame counter. Who needs Candy Crunch Soda for entertainment value when you are carrying around a R8? LOL."

"Well Norm, I think the R8 is a dandy camera with that 50 "E60," that Calzone already owns and retrofitted to 3-Cam, and it works well to surplant Cal's old F3P with the old Noct-Nikkor. I can see Calzone doing lots of nightstalking in NYC with that rig."

"You are right Bob, this camera isn't for everyone, but it suits Calzone rather well. What a character that guy is. LOL Why do we love him?"

"Coming up in our next episode of "This Old Camera" we'll be looking at the black SL2-MOT and the black hammered SL2 that Calzone bought as a donor/parts camera. His intention is to build one good camera from two: one is a Self Queen with a wonky meter and the other is what Cal calls "Street Fighter Condition" LOL."

"What do you think Calzone will do for a lens for the SL2-MOT when it is restored?

"That's a good question, but somehow I'm thinking a crazy wide. Cal kinda mentioned maybe converting that Olympus 24/3.5 perspective control lens that he has that was converted to Nikon F-mount to Leica R-mount. LOL"

"Norm, that Calzone sure is an interesting photographer. With him anything is possible."

"See you next week, and bye for now from "This Old Camera."

I've been putting my 4x5 wide angle camera from Linhof parts back together. I introduced some minor improvements, mainly the bellows and proper lens centering. I ordered an optical linear focus stage, used in labs, that will be the basis for on camera fine focussing, so I won't need an separate adapter.

SPARE PART ALERT!
I just found the body side of the quick release that locks the Linhof grip in place. So this baby is getting the big grip!

Christian,

For me, if I found a Linhoof grip, I'd have to build a camera.

BTW the R8 is so bulky that it does not need a grip. My name for this sturdy camera is "Diesel." This is also the same knickname for Andre's son who is going to be a brusier.

Cal,
If you do want to build something, I have a spare grip. It isn't calzone immaculate though.

Christian,

Not everything I own is in pristine condition. You should see the Black SL2 in "Street Fighter Condition."

I like honest wear the most like on my Wetzlar M6. That camera was really clean and now it is not. The vulcanite is worn smooth in some places and my body chemistry is eating through the Ti finish.

Currently I have too many projects, otherwise I would take you up on it.
