In today's episode of "This Old Camera" Calzone (AKA Cal) gets a surprise black R8 in the mail with a bonus motor/winder.
"So Norm, what do you think Cal likes about this camera?"
"Well its kinda big, extra heavy due to the steel frame that they later changed to aluminum. The metering is rather more advanced than his other rather basic cameras with the switching feature like that monster Pentax 67II of switching from spot, matrix and entire frame. The led display in the VF'er even has a frame counter. Who needs Candy Crunch Soda for entertainment value when you are carrying around a R8? LOL."
"Well Norm, I think the R8 is a dandy camera with that 50 "E60," that Calzone already owns and retrofitted to 3-Cam, and it works well to surplant Cal's old F3P with the old Noct-Nikkor. I can see Calzone doing lots of nightstalking in NYC with that rig."
"You are right Bob, this camera isn't for everyone, but it suits Calzone rather well. What a character that guy is. LOL Why do we love him?"
"Coming up in our next episode of "This Old Camera" we'll be looking at the black SL2-MOT and the black hammered SL2 that Calzone bought as a donor/parts camera. His intention is to build one good camera from two: one is a Self Queen with a wonky meter and the other is what Cal calls "Street Fighter Condition" LOL."
"What do you think Calzone will do for a lens for the SL2-MOT when it is restored?
"That's a good question, but somehow I'm thinking a crazy wide. Cal kinda mentioned maybe converting that Olympus 24/3.5 perspective control lens that he has that was converted to Nikon F-mount to Leica R-mount. LOL"
"Norm, that Calzone sure is an interesting photographer. With him anything is possible."
"See you next week, and bye for now from "This Old Camera."
