Yesterday I shot "Maggie" in a coffee shop with the D3X. She now likes the camera and the Noct-Nikkor. LOL.
I bought some fast 16 GB Compact Flash cards and downloading was not painfully slow. The D3X is a great camera, but like the Monochrom it requires really really good technic to get the best results. Carrying this camera around along with a MM is definately a tough guy workout.
Anyways I'm really glad I have a 27 inch Eizo. The results are brutal. It does not get much better than this. After stagnating being loyal to film and saving lots of money, all of the sudden I'm heading into the high end of resolution that just costs big money.
"Brutal," I say.

No longer a rumor... Monochrom2: http://uk.leica-camera.com/Photography/Leica-M/LEICA-M-MONOCHROM2/Details
It's a little too flashy with those chrome buttons on the front. It's not as stealth as the original.
I Can't wait for the 'ccd is better than cmos' crowd to start trashing it.
I'm sure it will be adequate.
I'm sure you can consider yourself lucky to own either one. Obviously a great camera... but I'm partial to color and AF so... none for me. Maybe the CCD Monochrom will go down on the used market some more now.

John,
I've seen some appealing prices on a chrome Monochrom. $4.2K on a dealer demo model. Wouldn't mind owning two Monochrom's either.
The CCD verses CMOS are just different sensors, each with their own look, advantages and disadvantages. Perhaps my bias is towards the CCD is because it is familure due to being the sensor my Monochrom came with, its novelty because it is less common than CMOS, and even perhaps because it is more expensive (to manufacture). Altogeter these are small reasons that perhaps make me a tiny bit biased where I might favor a CCD.
It is what it is, but it is amusing all the noise, chatter, and nonsense that is the result of rigid thinking.
The CCD look is kinda pretty, but I also think the CMOS is elegant. No clear winner for me. Interesting how in another thread how people are already using the word upgrade, and Monochrom die hards are already defending their positions for keeping their Monochrom's. We live in a polorizing world and RFF is only a small focus group. LOL.

I would imagine the CMOS based one will handle highlights better. That's what I've noticed from moving from the M9 to CMOS based cameras.

John,
Thanks. Good to know. Perhaps that is what I like about the D3X.
My problem is that I like a lot of cameras. Perhaps I need to rephrase that: I like many cameras. Well I think you know what I mean. Give me a camera and I will use it.

Bob,
No clear winner. That's why plan "C" is like to get both and use both. No point in wasting time arguing instead of shooting.
Lately the SLR and now DSLR section of the camera museum is growing. Only camera that makes sense to get is a DF and a M246. Oh-that's two cameras.

You're certainly right on this as I saw similar result on M240 (vs. M9) in addition to the slight difference on color rendition. I've just placed the pre-order for the M246. Peter at the Leica Store at Miami said I should expect its arrival in May. I guess we will find out soon. With this, I will continue to off load my Nikon gears and M9 (with a brand new sensor) & 35mm ASPH slowly but surely to fund the new MM and the 35mm ASPH FLE.

Lately I'm using the Fuji XE-1 with that free lens I got and the pictures are
coming out dandy! I'm kinda shooting it like a Leica.

John,
Congrates. I have to win the Lotto soon. LOL. I'm not happy.
BTW I checked with Puck Fair about May 10th and we are not homeless yet.
Last night at the Leica Gallery had a Mini-Meet-Up. Ran into so many People including Ben from Philly with his girlfriend. Met some interesting people also and many others from the NYC Meet-Up. I was originally just going to do a quick fly-by, but I ended up going in early and stayed till the close of the opening. I met a very gracious Eli Reed. Always wonderful to meet a man who is a legend that remains humble and so approachable. A truely great experience to meet the man. Likely the best Leica Gallery opening and show I ever experienced.

Bob
Bob,
I call the D3X with Noct-Nikkor "Porky." I think my F3P with MD-4 is heavier, but the D3X has some girth. BTW I have both real stunning results and results that really suck. Everything I thought I knew is either kinda different or very different. Seems to like me sitting or using high shutter speeds for the best results.
Anyways I'm way over my head. Now I'm carrying my MM9 and a D3X to shoot "Maggie" as well as holding her pocketbook and coat. Understand that sometimes I'm also carrying some extra wore-drobe.
Sometimes I don't understand why we could do without the pocketbook. Seems like a useless accessory that is rarely in the photo. Anyways lately I kinda feel more like a minivan than a photographer.

So, what date is the meet-up?

GEAR ALERT: Today I expect delivery of a Leitax adapter so I can mount my Leica 50 R Lux "E60" on my Nikon D3X with fresh prism divit. Kinda anxious to see how much more modern the look is when compared to my Noct-Nikkor.
John bring that new AF 58/1.4.

question to the New Yorkers here, can anyone recommend a photo lab that can still process 35mm and 120 E-6 or C-41 in a day?

John,
I did some editing and put together two quick portfolios: one urban landscape; and the other is street. About 20 13x19's in each. Also some Digital silver Imaging wet prints on fiber that are proofs made from the same Monochrom files.

Maybe B&H? I think there might be a rush fee. Besides that, I know Accurate Photo Shop in Park Slope does One Hour Photo. Check out Luster Photo in the East Village too. As always, call beforehand.
