My R-D1 arrived on Monday afternoon just before flying out to Fiji for a holiday very early Tuesday.
I was more after happy snap holiday photos, which the camera handled very well. I have never used a range finder before, so it was a step learning curve (I'm still at the bottom of the curve with a long way to go before I'm comfortable using the camera)
that said... what a joy this camera is to use, with its great high ISO ability and the way that Epson has it rendering the jpegs it lives up to all the hype on this forum and I'm glade I took the plunge and brought the camera off the classifieds here (thanks Jason "St Clair Photography")
I picked up a CV color skopar 35mm 2.5 lens as a starter walk around lens while I work out what type of photography I'll be using this camera for most.
flaming torch light only 1/60 ISO1600 f8
I had a few people sitting behind me watching the images come up on the LCD and they were wondering how I was getting the shots with out a flash
1/60 ISO200 f8
now to install the software and see what I can do to rescue the poorer ones

The first shot is freaking awesome considering also that ISO 1600 was used. The second shot is not bad either ;-)
Any more shots?!

Very nice
how do you like the 35mm CV?
iso1600 shot looks cleaner than iso200

Nice work with the flaming torches!
I know you've got a 35mm to start with, but consider the 28mm f/2 Ultron - it's a cracking lens that I've used almost exclusively for the first 9 months of owning my R-D1s. Now that I've got a Summicron 50mm f/2 as well, it's pretty evenly split between those two - but the 28mm is really great. Quite contrasty, which can be a bit harsh at times given the sensor's own contrasty tendencies, but once you get used to it, it's a gem...
