It works fine at 0.5 m. I stuck a piece of red gaffer tape on my strap that measures 0.5 m from the film-plane and use that as a guide. Need to come up with a more durable solution though as the tape already fell off!

I use the span of my fingers/thumb as a guide. For me, a stretched hand will give a distance of 20cm between my the tips of my thumb and ring finger. Now, I just set focus at 0.5 meters, use the RF patch to line up the image, and move the camera forwards by the above distance (from my eye to the tip of my ring finger). Works very well 🙂

Hey Kristiain, didn't know you'd be in NYC or I would have made the trip up there (originally from Queens too!). Looks like beer money may have ran out, so now we're down to laying it all out on the table and trading equipment for more...LOL! Hmm, maybe if there's is a late Nov. meet-up, I'll see if I can make it...just so we can increase the #"s of M9's there. Still I can't compete with Kristian's silver M9-P, in the beauty contest 🙂

No worries Kristian. I'm actually south of Wash. D.C. but grew up in the city (Queens) and still have some family there. I generally get up there a few times of year so would love to get to a meet-up possibly next time around. Keep us posted if you'll be back this way next month and I'll definitely try and plan something. As the holiday time approches, I find the mix of out of town "wide eyed" vistors along side native New Yorkers, makes for some interesting street imagery.

Funny, one of the posted shots taken at the Puck Fair reminded me of a high stakes poker game (where all equipment was gathered in one spot)....I could almost hear some say "I see your two Crons and raise you a M9-P and a Lux" 🙂

I have a little question to Nokton 35mm f1.2 II owners:

I've just received my copy of this marvelous lens. I've noticed something strange - a wavy line on the element below the diaphragm. It's even visible when looking straitly at the front of the lens. Is this "normal" messy finish of this product or is it faulty and I should have it returned to the seller?

Hard to tell in that photo, so: does the wavy line project INTO the middle of the lens element, or is it flush along the side? In other words, is it a horizontal defect or a vertical? If the former, I'd return it in a heartbeat. If the latter, I might not ... hard to say. Main issue is whether it will affect either IQ or longevity (i.e., it weakens the product in terms of build quality and how long it will last). Resale value may matter to you too and then that might dictate your decision.

I'd return it, its going to affect resale value, even if IQ is not affected. keep if it was second hand, and seller mentioned it in description, with price taking it into account.

I think this are resoults of excessive use of glue by the manufacturer - it's placed along the side of the element.

Could any of the owners check whether their copies exhibit such a wavy line of glue?

It's placed outside the optical tract of the lens (can't see those lines from behind) so it doesn't influence performance at all. It's really hard to see (and i'm beeing paranoid, as it's first really expensive lens of mine).

Just got this lens for use on the M9 and Ricoh GXR with the M module. with the M9 it becomes a heavy but good combination and with GXR it is fantastic where you can take advantage of the close focusing to .5 and it become the equivalent to a 52.5mm f1.2 lens!!!. loving it
