Okay, I did it...bought the Biogon 35/2

I just completed a transaction with Tony Rose for the black version of the 35 Biogon. After much reading, postings, day dreams and nightmares, I bit the bullet and did the deed!

Now the anticipation and buyer's remorse will set it!!! But I don't think I will regret it.

It does mean that some of my prized possessions may need to go. I may have an M2, a Canon 35/2 black late model user, a 50 Summicron Rigid (in for a cla), a CV 40/1.4 Classic MC (almost new) and several OM Zuiko lenses available in a few days. Perhaps other assorted stuff.

But this 35 will be my work horse, along with my M-Hex 50/2. Then I can settle down and post some pics from them.

I am leaving my longer lenses for the slr kingdom. Have both an OM and a Leicaflex SL to handle that. Haven't decided on which to keep long term. The size of the OM and quality of lenses are great, but getting repairs on metered bodies is becoming more difficult. The Leicaflex SL is a load with its lenses, of which I have the 60 macro and the 180/2.8 behemoth! Plan on adding a 90 R Summicron to that mix.

I'd been torn for a while but I've been really impressed with the results of the Biogon. People love them and they're a bit more reasonably priced then the current cron.

Good choice, it is my favourite 35 available today; I have this lens in black as well. I find the numbers way easier to read through the VF than on chrome silver.

I just won a black Biogon 35/2 on ebay. Here is a photo (of Oxford College in Tamsui, Taiwan, from 1885) from I test roll I shot right as soon as I got it (yesterday). The exposure is off, but the photo shows very well the 3-D drawing of the lens.

(This is the first time I've tried to insert an image in a post: I hope it works out right).

The Biogon is a good choice. I have been flipping through my lenses today, as we are going to Rochester on Wednesday for the LHSA meeting. I know I will be taking either the 18f4 Distagon (if it is in my hands tomorrow - customs seems to be sitting on it at the moment) or the 21/4,5 Biogon, I cant decide between the 40f1,4 SC/MC and the Biogon 35. Most likely the Biogon 35 and a 50 (either the 50f1,4 Asph or the C Sonnar 50f1.5). I am kind of leaning towards the 50/1,4 Asph as it is a Leica meeting after all and both the 50f1.5 and the 1.4 works fine on the M2/MP combination. The 18 and/or21 will be on the R4M as per usual.
The Biogon 35/2 is usually stuck on a M2 as I use these cameras with my Rapidwinders on them and the slightly larger size of the 35 is less noticable with this set up.
A plastic bag with 25 rolls of Tri X completes the kit. It is only a 6 day trip so that should be enough. Of course, finding Tri X in Rochester is probably impossible. Maybe I can sneak in and cut some off in the plant!

Sounds cool. I got the 50/2 from Tony a couple of months ago and so far am really liking it, what little I've had a chance to use it. I've never been a huge fan of the wides, but must admit the signature of this 35 has caught my eye. Please post pics so I can continue to torture myself. :bang:

Lovely photos. It's a great lens. I love the tones and colours it produces. It's amazing that it can have such a nice signature and yet look so different from the Leica rendering.

I just received my Biogon from Tony Rose a couple of days ago. Still shooting film so don't have anything to show yet but initial comments are:

• very nice build quality
• really like the focusing grip and nub
• as long as my M-Hexanon 50/2
• my CV hood from the 40/1.4 fits perfectly
• Tony really got this out to me quickly
• wouldn't you know it that a week later somone has one for sale in the classifieds!!!

There's been about 3-4 in the last few weeks on the classifieds (cannot image why!) the latest with the hood for only $750 being a very nice buy. Got mine (pretty much mint) with boxes and original papers (but no hood) for $695 in the classifieds here!
