Been shooting around with the M mount 35mm f1.7 Ultron on my M262 the last couple of days. To be honest, I think the thing is superior to the 35mm f2 Summicron ASPH. The Summicron is more compact, but they weigh about the same and the Ultron to me is just the superior optic. It certainly works great against the light, something the Summicron has failed to do every time I've tried using it that way the past 12 months.
I wonder if there's a compromise somewhere in the optics to keep the Summicron so small that contributes to the ineffectiveness against the light?

So now every two threads that share a lens name in the title will get merged because of an arbitrary suggestion of one out of the many thousand RFF members that we have ? 😕 Doug, you know I respect you but that doesn't seem right. How about checking with the thread starters first ? My original thread had nothing to do with the LTM Ultron. Plus, I cann't read it anymore on iOS/forumrunner (too big now).

Been using the M-mount version on my digital M262 for several days now. It has basically replaced the 35mm f2 Summicron ASPH as my standard lens, which only bests the Ultron in the compactness category. Optically, it's really not even close. Leica needs to update the Summicron ASPH, and by "update", I don't mean a few more aperture leaves and new hood...

Latest using the 35/1.7 VM with the Leica M262 near, or wide open. Seems like a very flat field lens. One can focus then recompose, placing the point of focus virtually anywhere in the frame and it'll be just as tack sharp as it would be if left in the center of the frame.

So I've been thinking about getting this lens and all the images in this thread have been doing a good job convincing me 🙂
I do have a question about the distortion. Is it actually minimal/negligible? I like to take pictures of buildings/architectural and plan on using this lens on film. If so, this seems like it'd be a good one lens kit for me.
