Hi,

I bought a Olive Green Canon P rangefinder. I did a google and yahoo search, but nothing comes up on it. Anyone got any information on olive green Canon P production? Did Canon make such a model? I know that Canon made olive green F1 SLRs, but I have no idea about olive green Canon Ps.

I hope someone can help me. I know I should should do a serial number search. I will shortly, but I just want to get some advice from the many Canon users here.

Hi,

Thanks for the responses. I figured it was a paint job, but just wanted to confirm. The price was extremely cheap. Now, I have to make up my whther to buy the Canon 7 the owner has as well. UGH! GAS!

Is it also green? Buy it. Why not?
Do they color cameras in pink for girls? [kidding!]

Raid,

I would not surprise me if they painted cameras pink with Hello Kitty all over them for girls. Cameras are fashion accessory here. I was at an upscale used camera store in Tokyo. A beautiful young women bought a Rolleicord becuase it was CUTE! I wish I had a 1000 USD $ to drop on a camera because it was CUTE! She walked out of the store with it dangling from here neck. Her friends told her how jealous they were and how cool she looked!

It is similar to sunglasses. A while ago, I asked a young salesperson of glasses in Key West why people needed more than one pair of sunglasses, and she replied that they were fashion accessories. I really did not know this fact.

A cute Rolleicord on a young woman may be explosive looking.

I have one that was painted olive drab, courtesy of Bill58's contact in Seoul, Korea, sporting charcoal gray griptac from cameraleather.com. The folks that painted the body did a beautiful job, stripped the chrome before painting. Difficult to capture the true color of the paint- it is a somewhat greener hue (less brown), and lower in value than shown in the picture

When I was in Shanghai a couple of years ago, I had a charming young tour guide with Hello Kitty backpack, and also a phone and Canon digital compact camera adorned with rhinestones and HK stickers. Both the phone and the camera were pink- at least the parts that were not covered with rhinestones.

The camera looks great, Mark. If you get tired of it, let me know,

I'm glad to know it still looks good, but I thought WE had the only two OD Ps in the world. Oh well......

Happy shooting w/ your P!

That's a great looking set mark!

When I was in Tokyo last month, I came across a few Olive Canon P in Lemonsha and Shinjuku Used Camera Mart. Interestingly, both shops had the converted 17mm Konica Hexanon mated with the camera. It was not expensive as I recall, but I was told it was not original Canon finishes as they were not available in Olive.

Cheers,
