May be the Bessa R2 in green did start all of this, I don't know.

I use to not like this color but now I don't know anymore! The Bessa looks mighty tempting!

I agree that the olive Bessa R2 looks nice, BUT: it's authentic, not a later «amendment»!

BTW, olive cameras were known already at least in 1957.

According to Mr Kadlubek, the West German armed forces' reason for choosing this olive colour was not camouflage, but: protection against theft!
