Olympus E-PL1?

Large when in use, I agree, and not especially aesthetically pleasing, but compact when locked, which makes the camera a lot easier to carry around.

Which reminds me: I need to look at my camera bags to see which fits best. I am not buying a new bag for it.

Well, not for a while, till I'm carrying the EP5 body, the wide angle, the other zoom, and a VF4.

And a 35SP 😉
 
Just been out for a wander and a play with more features. Found the macro settings, in the Scenes option, which is a bit annoying*, but it worked OK. Actually, there's a macro and a nature macro. I'll have to look into the differences later.

* at least the scenes option returns to the last selection when you go back in, not the top of the list, so, unless I was using some other scene option I could use the scene setting as a quick macro. *grumble*

even though i usually dont like art filters, the grainy B&W is pretty sweet to use sometimes... I miss my EPL1......

Last night, I thought I'd take the opportunity to use the pop up flash to take some shots of the baby.

Low light focussing? Oh dear. What's the point of having an on-board flash to conveniently illuminate a fuzzy image? :bang:

This morning, I took it out in the rain (well, it was the only weather I had available) before dawn, so took some low light photos out on the street, which it managed to focus better, and expose reasonably well. Coped with the general gloom as I took some rainy shots in Brixton, which was good to see.

I'd like a chance to play with my new camera in decent light, if that's OK with people... 😀
 
If I'd been able to get an EP-3 and zoom for less than 150GBP, I would have done! I'm glad I didn't go for the EP1 or 2, as the pop up flash is worth having. I like the EPL1, but I can see how the focus issue and the button pressing could grate after a while. As I've said, there's a development plan in place...
 
I most often fit the Olympus body cap lens and use the E-PL1 as a kick around snap shooter, but sometimes I'm drawn to use it differently:

It can produce some amazing quality if you take a little care with it. A little selfie...

I have an E-PL1, well its my wife's camera actually, and she does use it from time to time (mostly she uses her I-phone now--ugh). It focuses faster after I equipped it the new 14-42 IIR lens; the original kit lens is not so good. I use the E-PL1 with an OM 100/2.8 lens for portraiture (200 equivalent FOV) to good effect--really a nice combo. The E-PL1 is reputed to deliver the best image quality of all the Olympus Pens that used the first generation sensor.
 
I normally cycle to work, but have had to take the train and walk since I've been injured in the summer. Taking photos has been a distraction (and a challenge) during that time. But it's dark now, so I can't use my film cameras, so the EPL1 has come into its own, and I have been enjoying taking low light photos - something I've never really done before outside of the theatre. The autofocus often gives up in the dark, and so I've been using manual, which is OK with the VF-2.

I took some great photos on the way to an evening meeting last week. And, just as I was feeling a bit jaded and uninspired, I fitted my 17mm and set it to monochrome. Now, I can't wait to get back outside & shooting. Even nipping across the road for a newspaper was an opportunity for a couple of shots.

It's a good camera to keep coming back to.
 
I'm having a niggling problem with mine.

Every time I change the mode dial to P, A or ART, the camera defaults to manual focus. And after every exposure in ART, it also defaults back to manual.

Now, I have the zoom out button programmed to manual focus toggle, so it's one touch to return to AF if I want to, but I wish it would stay with the settings I give it.

It may be something I've set deep in a menu, but I'm sure this has only started in the last week. In fact, till yesterday, I thought it was my clumsiness or forgetfulness to blame.

Oh - and, conversely, not being able to use MF in macro mode is annoying.
