Olympus Stylus, first roll

I got this camera for $25, free shipping, and really like how it handles and
the results:

That it close-focuses to 1.1ft allows for head and shoulder portraits. All
these are uncropped. Kodak Gold 200 film, scanned at 2400dpi, Epson 4490.

Galfriend had one of these when we met. Some time later, she lost it while we were on a bike ride. Even though she didn't want me to go to the trouble, I secretly tracked down a like-new kit (including box, etc.), and she was thrilled. It might actually be my favorite of the Stylus series, not to knock the later versions too much.

Barrett, I used to have the Olympus Stylus Zoom (before Epic) that was a little
thicker than this camera to house the 35-70mm zoom, but optically speaking,
this seems to be a better performer. The one thing I like is being able to shut
off the darn flash, and the camera meters pretty well without it. Thanks for your comments.

I have one of these too, it's a great, compact, carry-around point and shoot. My biggest trouble is that I tend to shoot mostly in low light situations, and I don't like using flash for anything (it's the M rangefinder habits in me), so... my results aren't usually what I am looking for. I carry it when out in the woods skiing or biking, perfect for that.

Roger, it is fast becoming my fave for long walks, hiking, etc. I like my Oly XA, but for some
street shots where you don't have time to focus, this makes for a great substitute.

I have the exact camera, I bought it new. I have many small 35mm cameras and this is the easiest and the best. It is small (shirt pocket is way bigger), it has a built it clamshell lens cover, the meter is good, and the lens is very sharp.

Thanks Chubasco, doesn't that mean 'squall?' You won't be disappointed in that camera. I'm even thinking of buying another, the front plate fell off mine about 8 years ago, but it doesn't effect the performance.

I've had a Stylus Epic for a number of years now. It's a great carry-everywhere camera. I find the handling is much improved with a wriststrap that screws into the tripod mount. Gives me a bit more to hold onto.

CJC, thanks for the info about the film, lol, and yes it means 'squall' or I prefer
'tropical storm', from Spanish/Portuguese. I actually picked the nick from an old
60's movie starring Christopher Jones, remember him? I noticed you decided
to leave off the 'ofMars' in your nick...maybe you never read the Martian series
by Edgar Rice Burroughs.😀

I got a second Olympus Stylus (non-Epic) for $5 plus $4.95 shipping and
came with a good battery. Some test shots from the first roll using Kodak
Gold 200:

Not bad for $9.95 and gave serviceable results in less than ideal lighting
situations.
