just paid for the 300!
still looking for a winder. i think the motor drive is a bit of overkill.
and waiting to hear about the 35.
but ondre (spyderman) is looking for some 39 and some 40.5 filters, so if anyone has a spare they could live without, maybe, contact him. i think i have a 39 but need to check when i get home. his offer to give me the motor drive was very generous and i just wanted to repay the kindness.

Congratulation! a Zuikoholic to be !
back alley said:the oly gear is starting to show up.
the om1 body and the 28/3.5 arrived today, in different boxes and from different states.
unfortunately, the 28-210 zoom that was attached to the om 1 was in 2 pieces. not a big deal as i hadn't planned on using it.
the 28 looks new and had a tiffen uv filter attached. it was in a lens case and had both caps with it too.
i'm guessing a lenshood will be hard to track down?
the camera has more heft than i remembered and is smaller than my zeiss ikon rf.
i'm looking forward to playing with it real soon!

when i think about all the 'classic' nikons and canons i also had at one time or another, it's hard to believe.

I still have every camera I ever bought, with the exception of a Petriflex, a Leicaflex my dad purchased for me, and a Photo Sniper outfit. I still have my Nikon F2 body I purchased brand new, etc.

Joe: You may know this already, but the 35/2.8 is no slouch. The 35/2 has the edge in ... um, er, "signature"? I'm not sure what makes it special, I think it may both contrast and a hair more sharpness, but it reminds me more of Leica glass than just about any other Zuiko. But I have never been disappointed at all with any shot from a Zuiko 35/2.8; even the older silvernose version, while a bit softer, had great colour balance and contrast.

i can't remember if i had a 35 prime lens before when i had the oly kit before so i think i may be in for all kinds of surprises once all this gear shows up.
if i get hooked on the oly slr i may have to take a sabbatical from rff till i get things in balance again

Trius said:Barrett has already responded to Joe's need for a hood for the 28/3.5, but this is not correct. I think it's just a typo. The hoods (both metal and rubber varieties) that fit the 50/1.4 and 50/1.8 also can be used on the 35/2.8, not the 28/3.5. The 28/3.5 and 28/2.8 take the same hood, which is a flared, screw-in unit.
Correct!!!! It is for 35mm f2.8.

Joe,
Welome to the World of Oly!
Before catching the Kiev bug, followed by a chronic RF fever, I shot OM all the time. Still use the OM system when I need to get the job done without the added technical anxieties of the Kiev/Contax system.
Would never have half enjoyed photography if it weren't for my OM gear. Pure pleasure, no flashy namebrand, just honest good gear.
Got multiple bodies, OM1, 2, 2n, couple of 2s, and a 3 with the assorted lenes, 24/2.8, 28/2.8, 35/2, 50/1.4/ 85/2, 100/2.8, 135/3.5, and 200/4
Still a few primes to go to make it a clean collection worthy of work. I still shoot OM regularily.
I'm about due to start cycling my bodies through for a full CLA somewhere. I've heard Camtech Photo Service in NY is rather good.
Anyone got a spare 21 or a 180/2?
Cheers,
Russ Pinchbeck

I'm a Nikon guy, but the OM-1 came out just as I was getting into photography in high school. Mr. Canon, the guy who ran AV for my school (yes, I was an AV geek) had a brother who got a job as the OM rep and brough in a suitcase full of OM-1, motors, lenses, and stuff. It was very cool. I loved it, but my father was using a Nikon F2 at work and the other photographer for the Kodakery got the complete Nikon lineup while he as a photographer in 'nam. I got to test every lens and the camera just felt sturdier. I liked the size of the OM-1 and when the OM-2 came out with TTL flash, my lust became stronger.
I always lusted after an OM-1 for years. EvilBay helped me cure my lust. I got a drive that was on a OM-2 that needed more TLC than I cared to do, so I got it a new battery and gave it away.

I love my OM1 but a recent CLA including adjustment of the meter to 1.5v has given me an erratic meter instead - jumps all over the place. Sunny 16 at the moment and as soon as this roll is done I have t take it back to sit in the workshop for another 3 months while they ignore it. : (
They still have my OM2sp (since june).
My first Om was the OM40. very black. Had to replace a motherboard (for about the cost of a new camera in the 80's) and the mirror is sticking up and the batteries drain fast. The reason why I have an OM1 really.
The most reliable camera in the house (before I got my Bessa R) is my partner's OM10 but I really don't like that one: ergonomics with the manual adapter is inelegant and the mirror slap is way too loud. I tease her about it lots but it just keeps working (and it looks brand new). She must NEVER read this.

anyone have a winder, cheap?

Joe, as a matter of fact I do have a clean Winder 1 that isn't being used if your first one doesn't work out. I've been looking for a motor instead.
I made a one month stop in OM land before I "came home" to Leica earlier this year. I ended up with an OM1n and a OM2n, a 24, a 50 and a 135. Fun stuff! I had a small OM kit for recreational shooting back in the early 80s until I replaced it with... an M4-P. The more things change...

thanks ken but i got a winder today along with the 19-35 zoom and the 35/2.8 zuiko.
but hold on to that om2 f(or me at a later date) unless you want to sell it for under 40 bucks...
