Sorry I was teasing, I did not mean to bait, you told me to search 'series', and I had searched but I think some of the posts you could recall are broken links now. If I get more details I'll PM you a tentative post for you to proof.
I think the 35-70/4 is 55mm (from memory) and I know it is big, the variable ap ( forgotten the f numbers 3.5-4.5 I think) is 1/3 the length at minium and 49mm i.e. really small, both are amazing performers for their day and pretty rugged mechanically. There was a 3rd more expensive, and even better - I think, never had this one, possibly a 3.5. Noel

including the 300, all this gear will have cost about 300 bucks.
i just spent 1200 on the zeiss and the cheapest zm lens is 600 bucks.
