OM, I've become a Zuikoholic!

A question to all you fellow Zuikoholics. I have a Zuiko 300mm f4.5 (multicoated version) in essentially mint condition. It takes really sharp photos. The only problem I have with it is that the focusing collar, while very smooth, is rather heavily damped and so is difficult to turn quickly enough to track quick moving subjects. Is this a characteristic of this lens model (given the lack of internal focusing) or do you think some lube in the helicoid would fix this problem?

Well my OM-PC arrived and despite its beautiful cosmetic condition it appears to be toast.

The film advance is frozen solid and I am of the opinion that a motor winder was put to use melting the plastic innards.

The OM-PC/40 has interested me lately for its full program mode and DX capability.

I notice that most of these up for sale are broken, unworking, untested or parts-only. It gives me the impression that they are not very durable.

I have now lost interest on this model.

Just a question, does it have fresh batteries? Those electronic OM bodies totally freeze up when the batteries are dead.

I'm interested in getting an OM. Frank S. has an OM2n in Classifieds for $170.00, includes a 50/1.8 that has problems. Assuming the lens is toast, is $170 too much for just the body? Also what does the n stand for?

The seller must have thought of that, since brand new batteries came with the camera, a third one still inside the sales card.

(of course I was hoping it was only a case of dead batteries ;) )

Both 50mm 1.4 on an OM1, my word this is one of the nicest cameras I have ever used.

I may have just committed a minor sin - took a pair of pliers and ripped out the right-hand strap lug on my OM-2n. Feels 100% better in my hand now, that strap lug was just in a terrible place.

Looking at it, I don't think I could have caused any light leaks, but I think I need to find something to fill the hole with now - black epoxy, maybe.

.....whoah.

i cry for your camera, but at the same time am happy for you. :p

My OM1 locked up, I mis set the shutter dial between two speeds, thankfully I managed to get her back. So out of fear of being OM less I have on the way two OM20s and an OM2 along with 2 50mm 1.8s. I have still completely failed to get a wide angle though.

I love the OM system, it's just so compact and light including the lenses.

My favorite camera is the Om2SP / S. All you need and nothing more. Did try an OM4 for a while but went back to the 2SP, I found it much easier to use quickly in manual mode.

I actually just picked up a 50/1.8 MiJ off the bay (also a Parker 61 :D )

still cant find a 1.1 + 50/1.4, been wanting to give that one another try.

Get some Sugru to patch the hole and maybe make your own grip add on :)

Don't know much about Oly SLR cameras, so bear with me for perhaps sounding like an idiot: Is the Oly lens mount proprietary, or is it a common M mount?

it's its own mount.

M is an RF mount unless Im missing an SLR maker who called their system M. Olympus tried and Leica asked them to stop, so they did.

Thanks, I'd forgotten about the rf thing. Senior moment for sure. So it's Zuiko lenses then, or aftermarket lenses made for the Oly SLR bayonet mount?
