OM1n MD - First roll - Xprocessed Velvia

So I didn;t necessarily wantt to cross process, its just my dumb ass didn;t comprehend the lever that allows you to rewind the film and never switched it, so yeah, torn film. Took it to lical shop and to process E6 they have to send away and they were not comfy sending torn film, so I said just process here in C41...

So yeah, long story short, I really like using this cam, just need to get better with it. Lens doesn;t seem extraordinary but gets the job done, its a standard Zuiko 50mm 1.8. Film was Velvia iso 50 RVP, I will admit, I am a beginner in all respects with film, so I found that many of my blacks were grainy and greyish, so I am guessing I was exposing too long? To get the most saturation and punch along with deep blacks, it is better to underexpose or is it more having to do with tricking the iso?

These are nice photos...nothing to be ashamed of. Yes, there are sharper lenses certainly but as an evil SLR it is a good camera to use. If you use the alkaline battery or at least the one in my camera with the voltage higher than the old mercury battery the readings at the wider stop will not be accurate. I read that on the internet on another site. I discovered it to be true with my OM-1. & since I do like to shoot wide open I have sent for the MR-9 which I read would solve that problem. Just a few comments IMHO.

I had this overhauled at Cameraquest in NYC so he replaced the battery, so I think the meter should be on. I hope. Wasn't cheap. 😉

It's normal for crossprocessed to look that way. Velvia is very saturated, so try E6 first to see if it satisfy you. In my experience Velvia looks crap underexposed, either expose correctly or overexpose abit.

Gotcha, thanks fore the tip Hans. I have a roll coming back this week processed E6 from my Oly 35SP, so we'll see how that goes.

I never think SLR when I am on RFF, but it seems among Rangefinder enthusiasts, the OM series has a special place, my guess due to size and the zuiko lenses?

You pick it up correctly, IIRC, last year we had a thread on the Olympus RF sub-forum that considered the OM's as "honorary rangefinders" because of the traits mentioned. This is before they make this Evil-SLR sub-forum.

Although the closest SLR to a rangefinder has to be the Olympus Pen-F, but I digress 😉

Nice shots, btw, you have a good eye for landscape composition.
