That's sort of a strange attitude. Part of the whole point of digital is being able to easily manipulate it on a computer.
But if enough people really wanted that effect, it would be programmed to be available in-camera, in any of 255 shades of color, on any edge (or multiple edges) of the frame.
I guess I do get your point (sort of) about the fact that film errors and artifacts of process have to be simulated in the digital realm. Indeed, taking a "film" approach to digital information is one of the things Photoshop excels at.
