Only 2 lenses: 35 and 50mm!?!

35mm and 50mm to me are a little too similar. I suspect the ultimate 2 lens kit for me would be a 28mm and a 40mm.

I agree, Juan. 28/50 or 35/75. The 35/50 pair are too close together to me.
Like Rover, I tend to use whatever is on the camera. My 35/50 combo is a 40mm. :)

Since i started in photography I always had a 50. Then, with my FM2 I bought a 105mm that I used as a tele lens for press events. Then added a 20mm.
When I moved to Canon digital I bought 24-70L , 70-200L and a 20mm, for comercial use. But soon I started to buy a 50/1.4, a 85/1.8 and the last one (that I wanted for many years) a 35/1.4L.

Now I am on M9 with a borrowed 35 cron and looking for a 50, cron or lux. That's my prefered lens. And after the 50 I will buy a 35.

When I travel, I did many trips with my FM2 + 50mm + 20mm. Now I like to travel light and the M9 + iPhone Hipstamatic are my best options.

By the way, if anyone knows of a nice 50 cron or lux, please let me know! Thanks!

its always a 50 on my m7, it tends to get easier for me trying to frame it in the mind first when its only 1 focal length :)

I am not restricting my choice of lenses at home, but I take 2-3 lenses when I leave home to take photos. Usually, it is something like (19 or 21 or 25)-35-50 or 35-50-75. I also use sometimes 90mm lenses for a change. I really am just enjoying the lens choices that I have.

35/50 on the M system. I'd consider a 75 for my M in preference to the 50, but my Nikon 85 works well for portraiture. I simply can't justify the 75 'cron or lux. If a used 75 Summarit came my way I'd think about it.

I'd love to just stick to 2 focal lengths on my rangefinder but I find 28 too wide sometimes, 75 too tight sometimes... etc etc. I can see why people keep one of many focal lengths and then just swap them around in their collection every other month or so when they want a change in perspective. That way you wouldn't be constantly buying and selling but could still have the flexibility of a change in view angle when the mood arises. I'm thinking of the above philosophy myself, I'd only use one or two lenses from day to day but swap them around as the mood strikes from time to time.

In fact I almost never mount my 28 and 90 mm rf lenses. Only the the 35s, the 40s and the 50s see any use.
I like the 28mm on slr however. As well as macros and teles.
RF cameras don't seem fit for work out of the 35-50 mm range.

Of the four rangefinder lens I own the two 35mm ones, Canon F-2 LTM and CV 35 2.5, get the most use by far, with my 50mm Summarit coming in a distance second.

I usually carry the CV 15, 21 and 28 with the RD-1, so that gives me 22/32/42, and I'll occasionally carry a 50 for closer only if I expect in advance to really use it.

I have always been a fan of wide angle lenses.
Recently I acquired a 35mm for my M8 (50mm equivalent) and find to my great surprise that I am very happy with this focal length.
Guess that when I am going to add a Wide view it might as well be a super wide like a 15 or 18mm.
Might add a 50mm later and a film body (M3 or M4) that way I can utilize advantages of film and digital plus use the lenses to their true focal length or not ;-)

There is still a lot to be said for having one lens and really learn bow to utilize it best.
