There is much ballyhoo about the 1.5 version of this lens but not a lot about the f2 version. I get the impression that the F2 is the poor man's f1.5.

So it's appropriate that I should have the F2!

So far, I very much like the way it renders.

Anyone else have images and / opinions to share about this lens?

These are from my first roll. Tri-x @ 1600, stand dev'd in Rodinal ... all low-light / indoor. The one of the kitty is at f5.6, the selfie is f2.8 and the other one is f2.

Optics and Lenses - This forum is aimed towards the TECHNICAL side of photographic OPTICS and LENSES. There will be some overlap by camera/manufacturer, but this forum is for the heavy duty tech discussions. This is NOT the place to discuss a specific lens or lens line, do that in the appropriate forum. This is the forum to discuss optics or lenses in general, to learn about the tech behind the lenses and images. IF you have a question about a specific lens, post it in the forum about that type of camera, NOT HERE.

more like nobody has enuff of this lens to test it...'
perhaps if this is included in the Contax RF section
or even the Leica RF/FSU section with inclusion of
the excellent Jupiter 8 which models after the 50/f2....

Sonnar 2/50mm

Sonnar 2/50mm

It's a great lens and was considered the standard for the Contax cameras. I've used the CZJ pre-war on Contax II and III's and Carl Zeiss post war on Contax IIa and IIIa. I use all of them on an NEX-7.

The CZJ postwar was made for and shown as the lens of the Contax IIa and IIIa cameras when they first came out. Zeiss West Germany started putting their own lenses on the Contaxes when CZJ was nationalized. I never used the post war CZJ 2/50mm, but the post war CZJ 4/135mm I use is equal to a Carl Zeiss 4/135mm.
