Original Canonet - Parallax Mirror

Most rangefinder mirrors I have worked on were front silvered. This is to cut down on the double image you get with back silvering. It's also why one is reccommended to never rub the mirrors as it will damage the surface. To keep the image beam it's brightest you also don't want the glass to absorb any of the light, so they are front silvered. The rangefinder rotating mirror faces the front of the camera, and the half-silvered beam splitter in the viewfinder faces the rear to complete the best path for the most light to reach the eyes, and keep the image from any degradation via a secondary reflection from the back of the glass.
