Hello guys,

I need your opinion on this lens that I found. I was happy to have found this lens mounted on a Leica IIIf. The case was also included and even a certificate was still in the camera case with the date of purchase, 1951. Now I can't seem to find any info or pictures from this lens with this silver rim instead of the black one. Any info would be welcome ;)

Congratulations ! I have the 50/1.5 Nokton for my V-lander Prominent I, but would LOVE to have one in LTM !

May we see some pictures from your example ?

Grab it with both hands and never let it go. Seriously. NEVER. (Check eBay for the prices these things attract). I had one for the Voigtlander Prominent camera and found it to be sharp but quite low in contrast in common with a lot of single coated lenses of the era. On par with the 1st Summicron was my impression. But it also has a rarity factor that has the collectors drooling as 99% were made om the Prominent mount not the LTM one.

Apparently this is one of the rarest LTM 50s of that era, performance may or may not live up to hype. But still, as a collector's piece...
 
It seems to be an original ltm Nokton for the Prominent. Collectors want it.
I got a custom adapter by Amedeo that lets me used my (Earthly) Nokton on my M camera with full RF focusing.

The Nokton for the Prominent is lower contrast but with good resolution levels. I like to use it so much that I welcomed Amedeo making such an adapter. My lens has no collector value, of course.
 
I understand, and this is why it is for collectors. Mine is the regular one for the Prominent. Amedeo gave me the chance to pick M or LTM for his adapter As a user of a Nokton, I am more interested in the optics of the lens. A collector would want to make sure that he/she gets the original lens case and the lens cap and that the lens barrel was very shiny and without a scratch. You can get a good premium for your lens.
 
Congratulations. I got the more common black-rimmed version of the LTM Nokton under similar circumstances many years ago. Mine came w/a beat-up IIIc (that I sold to a friend) & needed a full adjustment/recollimation by DAG. Unfortunately, I know nothing about the silver-rimmed version, though I have seen them on eBay in the standard Prominent mount as well as LTM.

Taajzer (OP). You do realize that what you have is really very desirable to collectors, right? Complete with the bubble case. Wow. I think what others have been trying to say is that the lens is quite uncommon and desirable, and there are people who would like it for the collectable value it has.

I think raid was implying earlier that if you are looking for good lenses to use for taking pictures, you might consider selling this lens (for quite a lot) and using the money to purchase multiple other great-performing lenses. Yes, you can get more than one lens with the proceeds. Its just a thought.

If you decide to use this lens as a user, it performs nicely. Part of why its so desirable. I would expect it to perform nearly identical to the Prominent version. If there are differences in performance, I doubt any of us could ever tell. Probably the realm of high-end test equipment, not actual human eyeballs.

So...congratulations! A stunning find and a stunning lens in stunning condition (from the looks of it).
 
I doubt that since Voigtlander lenses like the Lanthars into the 1960s are radioactive. If anything, being earlier in the production run, the chrome-rimmed Noktons might be (slightly) more radioactive.

Thank you rfaspen, I do know indeed that this is a rare gem. I'm going to put it up for sale, even though I have a weak spot for 50mm lenses. I already had some offerings from a few potential buyers, and yes I could buy a few new lenses and equipment with that money. But there is no rush for me, I first would like to enjoy and test this unique piece first before I put it on for sale. You wouldn't even believe what I payed for it on a yardsale ;)
