OK, I know it's not a rangefinder, but here's the little Pen EE-S camera I bought at the Sydney Camera Market yesterday. It needs new light seals but I ran a test roll anyway. I'm impressed! The half-frame negs scan in pairs on my scanner. It's a fun little pocket camera, which I think I'll be using some more. Did anyone make these in a rangefinder version?

Don't think so. But there were, of course, the SLR models from Olympus.

But wait: there were a very small number of M4's (?) made as halfframe. Collector's territory, not users'.

The one thing missing on my M3 DS: a switch that transforms the camera from full to half frame ... Didn't they think of that in Wetzlar? Or is it impossible from an engineering point of view?

The original Konica auto-reflex SLR could be used as a full-frame or half frame camera.

On an M3 you would need a lot more framelines to cover the full/half frame option.

Try a search of the forums. I am sure there was a question about half frame RFs before, and I think there actually was one or two made.

The Pen W -- 6-glass 25/2,8 lens and the only black paint finish non-SLR Pen -- is my favourite half-frame/single frame/18x24 camera and I have published a number of pics taken with it. Lovely bit of kit.

Cheers,

Roger

I have an Olympus Pen S. Still haven't put it back together after the last failed attempt at fixing the shutter. It takes nice photos, so it's sort of a bummer. Will soon give it another go, and it'll be my first repaint job, too.

Daido Moriyama shot '71/NY with the Pen W. There are a few mirror self-portraits in the middle. Great book.

I bought a Pen EE-S last week, together with a Trip 35. I like the Trip a lot and it has immediatly become my pocket camera. I haven't loaded the Pen yet, as I noticed that the film counter seems to count backwards. Is this because there is no film in it, or do you think something is wrong?

Wim

No - the counter counts down from the starting number of frames, which you have to set manually after you have loaded the film. It took me a moment or two to work that out! 🙂
