OT: Yeah, hockey!

you know, i promised myself i wouldn't watch anymore in protest of the lockouts, but i fliped past a game yesterday and it was just so exciting...let's hope the rule changes stick this time...

and ywenz, my mom always told me that you'll get more flies with honey than you will with vinegar. she was a strange lady though, as she never could explain to me why she like flies so much. 🙂

Stay positive people!

Unfortunately I think more and more it is becoming like a business, but I have always been able to see a difference in Canadian fans and players. The regular season is too much of a grind, but the Stanley Cup playoffs is unique in North American professional sports for the intensity and the personal emotional involvement of the players. The Stanley Cup truly is an icon to the players.

Frank, I almost started this same thread last night and I'm not even Canadian! 😀

Unfortunately, my Hurricanes lost. Still, it was nice to see them play again. These new rules are great and in the long run, they're going to bring in a lot of new fans.

Rover: While I can't say I'm sorry your Whalers are now the Canes, I'm sorry they're not still your team. I can understand why, though. If they pulled up stakes and left Raleigh, they wouldn't be one favorites list anymore either.

Kind of like religion these days. You have to get past that crap to find the pure passion. 🙂

I miss listening to Chuck Kaiton on the radio.

Montreal still has a team??? I thought they'd have been moved to Sante Fe or Vegas by now.

Rule changes are fun except for the one aimed expressly at the league's best goalie...Go Devils!

Sorry Frank.

Went to the Chicago Blackhawk's opener. They started on the usual foot by losing. A lot of holding and interference penalties. The goalies pads and equipment are smaller. I thought our goalie grabbed his kids equipment bag. No double line pass offsides anymore, either.

It's a good thing that we signed Khoubaboulin (sp) for 6.7 mil, I'm sure our old goalie would of let 6 goals score instead of Habbies 5.

The rink was only 3/4 full, but with the White sox in the playoffs, I think that cut into the attendance.

Eric

If you can't win the game, at least win the fight.

Hey, it's all about the passion. I can respect that. (Pre-mature aging of the plasma screen however...)

Just my way to show my displeasure of what the league and players represented as milionare sport players.. the game means so little to me now, to the point it's not even worth the phosphorous time they're getting on my plasma..

Yes Capt.

I spent many a night either listening to him because the owner of the Whalicannes (how is that? 🙂) refused to cut a deal with local TV, or when a game was on, I would turn the sound down and listen to Chuck. I wonder if the broadcast are available on the web?

If it is, anyone who wants to get a feel for the passion of hockey should give him a listen.

I have no team at the moment. My Whalers are now Hurricanes

Another fan of The Whale! I love it. I, too, am rather without an allegiance at this point, though I got a huge kick out of the Hurricanes' run to the finals in '02. I'm just happy the NHL is back. Looking forward to seeing the new rules in effect, though the shootout strikes me as cheesy.

Here's the website of the local radio station that carries Kaiton's broadcast. I don't think they have a webcast, though, but I didn't do a thorough search of their website.

Edit to add: I believe you can also listen to the team radio feeds through the NHL's website.

I am SO glad it's back. Frank and I (and maybe Jan, GeneW and others in Leaf Nation) will live and die on the Leafs. The only change I don't like is the shootout. And I wouldn't have liked it even if the Leafs had won the (first ever NHL) shootout last night. Having a game decided that way is just wrong. If it's so good, why won't it be used in the playoffs? Riddle me that!

No one gives T.O. much of a chance this year, but they'll be better than most expect. Canada has six contenders this year. And if the Americans don't watch it, eventually the league will contract to it's home base. And of course Bettman will be gone... boo hoo.

Oh, but when the Leafs bring home the cup you'll be celebrating on Yonge Street ... you'll be born again for sure!

Good one, Trius!

I actually thought you wre all talking about field hockey... ladies field hockey! I prefer seeing that than toothless grunts skating madly after a frozen hamburger. 😛
