Back in 1998 I started photographing sea turtles and started to become involved in their conservation/preservation efforts. I was horribly naive about how I might be able to help -- my first thought was to take photographs around to the local grade schools and talk with the children. That didn't work out but things developed in ways that I never imagined possible through the internet; people and organizations involved in conservation from all over the world are using these pictures in schools, museum placards, brochures and pamphlets, and on web-sites. Every month or so I get a request from an organization for permission to use images, most recently from an organization in Australia, and it gave me cause to stop and think about what has taken place over the last seven years -- our pictures can make a difference, even if it is small.

Good for you, Honu!

I hope one day my photos of the ger districts of Ulaanbaatar will be of use to some, even if only to historians. 🙂

Good job 🙂 What do you shoot the turtles with then ? (insert verrrry obvious pun here 😀 )

RML = great shots from mongolia, and you're M2's have styyyle 😀

Hono,
Job well done.
Remember the Buddhist proverb about the pebble thrown into the water. The ripples can have effects well past what we intend originally. And they will return to you in kind ~ ; - )

Your story gives me wings to fly... I'm hoping to become the unsung bard of this town by taking photographs of some of its buildings so that in the future, when people want to find out how life in a small town was, they can resort to my silly shots.

But man... your turtle photos are a crusade. Good work, Honu! 🙂
